The order in which your compiler emits jump instructions absolutely matter. The optimizing pass attempts to determine which branches are most likely to be used and reorders instructions. The likely and unlikely keywords now allow the programmer to have some control over that.

yeah, by adjusting the jump order it has an affect on branch prediction.
