It is humorous but inaccurate so I'll be the party pooper. 
Adding more software developers CAN produce results faster but adding additional women to a pregnancy CANNOT do anything to speed it along. So the analogy does not quite work.

It depends on the project size and structure. I'm glad I have a team member working with me on my current project 
I think the issue is just adding new resources to a project as it takes a while for them to get up to speed.
