I use VS Code because
A) Everyone uses it so I can write articles involving using it with instructions for that software and it will hit the widest audience with the least effort
B) It's totally cross platform
C) Extensions like nobody's business. I can even edit Fallout and Elder Scrolls game scripts with intellisense.
I'll put up with its shortcomings for all that.

Yes, they are both derived from TortoiseCVS. When I started using it, it was maintained by Torsten Martinsen in early '00.

I just signed into Windows and Edge appeared with a small message box saying "Microsoft Edge now starts automatically when you sign into Windows!"
Gee, thanks....I think.
Will they stop at nothing to force us to use Edge?

I got that update some time ago...it looks like malware...a floating search bar on your main screen. I haven't used the new 'feature' yet, still preferring to search with Google. For now, I just dismiss it, but it does have an option to disable/turn off.
Pretty soon, it will be integrated into your Windows Co-Pilot.

Agreed. And down the road, we'll have anti-trust lawsuits brought against companies that try to lock you into their version of ChatGPT, or Co-Pilot, or Assistant.

It's part of the push by Microsoft to embed their digital assistant into the system. The MS DA uses Bing, which in turn uses Edge for the interface. And yes, go into Edge's settings and you can turn this crap off.
