They reset streak if you do not play each day. I play only on weekdays so every Saturday this gets reset.

I didn't start wordle until the beginning of April, but I was able to binge thru all previous wordles on a now defunct history site. If I recall correctly the puzzle numbering started at 0. Today's number is 334, so if my memory is correct I've played 335 puzzles. I failed to solve 11 of the puzzles giving me a 96.7 win percentage overall. All games have been played in easy mode.

I think NYT isn’t maintaining accurate statistics. The distributions add up to 118 but the total number of games played is 123. The current streak may also be incorrect.
