I really miss working in IOT, I haven't touched any of my home projects in a couple years now, no longer work at somewhere that has a use for IOT. I'm afraid some of my skill set is fading.
I work for a medium sized community college building software for them now, pay is good, benefits are excellent, the retirement package is over the top, and the work is absolutely boring.
I feel like embedded work is much more interesting: pore over the datasheets, choose the correct chips for the job, master you're C skills, and enjoy the pain of getting an inert object to light up and do something. now with web development  you spend most of the time looking up what the frameworks do as they change every year, what framework, what platform. you can never master this crap, it changes too quickly.

I spent my whole career designing/coding for embedded devices. I just love the low level stuff where I have complete control of the processor and associated hardware. 20+ years in the industrial control field and the remaining time programming TI DSPs. Fun stuff.

I am unable to locate a single human associated with Greenview Data (The Name of the Business Entity which is behind Vedit)
The weird thing: I can still download the installation and trial version of the package.
It seems quite a bit weird to keep my Windows'7 machine active for writing text, simply because I can't reinstall the pack on the new machine.
I really and truly like the Vedit Text Editor better than anything that has come along in the past thirty years.
I hope I don't have to make another downward move in my standard of living because of this.

I tried Richard's provided website link, and the only one appearing broken to me is the "products -> documentation" one. 
Do you have maybe an account in which you have your magic number installed ?
Can't you read it out from somewhere on the old machine ?
Don't you have it deep burried in a email somewhere (how did you get it first place?)

Yes, I've had an account with Vedit since 1991; if memory serves me correctly. Ted Greene (Sp?) and I could recognize each other's voice on the phone without giving either one of us our name. My name appears on the web page of Customer Testimonials. To this day I say that Vedit still beats them all.
Interestingly enough, the website robot says that their database does not have my E-Mail address on file.

They use an installation number of something like fifteen digits. My customer serial number only has five digits. I can get that one from the menu on my screen

My E-Mail host demanded that I clean up my zillion zigabytes of old E-Mail; I am confident that the Vedit stuff was deleted with that purge.
I got my serial number from the company when I bought the thing, and upgraded through several iterations over several years (Decades, actually). My current copy of the program says that I'm eligible for upgrades through version 7.1 (they are currently at 6-point-something, and I have another 6-point-something).
