Why so miserable. Windows long ago got to be good enough in terms of its basics.

If you want to continue selling Windows licences (or at least making them attractive as part of a services/server/support bundle) inevitably means features like this.

It's business. This is what maintaining success looks like.

I mean, Who in the world of IT uses words like "precious" to describe folders?

IT people speaking to non-technical end users, not least decision makers (at both SOHO and corporate/enterprise level).

Add emoji from your keyboard
Wow!  That's everything everyone ever wanted from a computer!

Actually, in a world where end user are used to emojis being easily accessible on their phones, they most certainly do expect this on their desktops and laptops. to not provide it would be a failure.

Automatically back up precious folders

What's wrong with this? Home/SOHO users still don't do enough backups so anything that helps them is a good idea. In a corporate scenario, features like this can complement existing backup strategies and might be useful in allowing people to recover their own data without troubling the IT support staff. It sounds like it might be an extension of the now-old and rather underused shadow copy feature.

Er... isn't it blatantly keeping up with reality?

  • Create events quickly
    Woo-Hoo!
Just what everyone needs baked into an operating system, because no-one has Zoom or any other kind of meeting software installed.

You are demonstrating old think. Wink | ;-) An operating system is no longer just and operating system; it is now expecting to be a fully functioning, ready-to-go, application environment. Creating events quickly, easily, transparently and smoothly is now a key function of modern operating systems. It was mobile phones and, perhaps ironically, the package-operating-system-with-packaged-apps model of Linux distributions that, more than anything else, created this current reality.

In brief, it strikes me that Windows is being kept up to date with the zeitgeist of the operating system world. Yup, it will upset some people but it will nevertheless be more of what non-technical end users have come to expect. They expect it to 'just work'. This is what it looks like.
