The failure of vista had nothing to do with bugs -- it worked as designed -- so maybe the guys should have done the job they were assigned to do, rather than investigate quality control.

Now that you tell, it is obvious for me too. The worst is... I do know that rule.
It is just that I continuously switch between 3 languages and 2 dialects and when I am tired and don't pay attention as I should, I end mixing them up, so that I become the far cousin of Yoda (with the allowance of Pete O'Hanlon of course )

Woe the developer that complains about software quality, the same developer that when given unlimited time produced unlimited garbage. I laugh in the face of such whining, as the reality is that the better the software quality, the more likely you will meet deadlines, and thus they are realisitic deadlines. Much as developers want to whine about deadlines, the fact of the matter is, most deadlines are unrealistic because the code base never saw the light of "quality" to begin with.
An unrealistic deadline, in my opinion, is simply that there's too much work to be done given the allotted time. Software quality should not suffer if software quality actually exists, and if software quality exists, it's not the driving factor for an unrealistic deadline measure.

100% agreed. My stance is always to deliver quality and just be late or be on time and not deliver some items.
In my opinion, there's no excuse for poor quality.

At the same time, there are a lot of different opinions on code quality from a lot of different developers, few of them compatible with each other, which are emphatically and loudly declared as absolute necessities.
When managing a software project, it can be extremely difficult to determine who is crying wolf.

Testing is essential but it's secondary. Sorry. But it means I can do twice as much software development!
Maybe if I did some unit tests for my unit tests?
