I don't know if you can really say Skype can be removed. I've uninstalled it from my machine at least a half dozen times, it just comes back in the next update. I just gave up and disabled it from autostarting.

The most amazing aspect of Windows is that the core, its kernel, remains virtually unchanged on all architectures and SKUs. The Windows kernel scales dynamically depending on the architecture and the processor that it’s run on to exploit the full power of the hardware. FWIW getting an explanation of what/how W10's game mode is supposed to work was interesting.
I'd honestly felt it was a gimic when announced, but based on that description it sounds like it might let me play multi-threaded games while still having boinc CPU apps running in the background by segregating the several cores the game needs off from the rest of the system vs the legacy behavior where the game would end up chugging because it only got about 1 core instead of the 2 or 3 it needed to run well, while 8 science apps each got about 85% of one of the other seven.

Reading this article, I felt I was watching a Disney movie, and, I found myself laughing as I reflected on my own surreal experiences at companies like Cricket, Adobe, WildTangent, companies where management of software development was like a ride through the "Fun House" with twisted mirrors.
At the same time, I appreciated the scent of glorious optimism, and the passionate belief in the possibility of rational planning. I do wonder if, when the author is older (as in 40~50-ish), she may look back at this article, and have a wistful sense of a certain loss of naivete.

It's been fun upgrading to Windows 10. Especially when you find an app that kills the Start button in Explorer. Click the little Window icon and ... nothing happens. Makes for great Help Desk calls.
Oh, and then, after fixing that and waiting a few MS patch cycles, the app kills the Start menu again, but this time, you can click the little Window icon and it works, but you can't launch anything at all from it. Click any app on the Start menu and ... nothing happens. 
Vendors. I hate vendors.

It's articles like this that caused my father to panic, which required multiple emails to assure him that Windows 7 wasn't going to just vanish, it just wouldn't be patched.
I have a Windows 7 computer on the other side of my desk which I use for my "weakest computer" testing. I keep it patched, but it honestly doesn't matter due to how it's used. However, I suppose I could have IT implement the "Star Trek" architecture where that computer has full administrative access to all computers in our company and, for good measure, all employee computers as well.
BTW, having had to recently deal with refurbished computers upgraded to Windows 10, I've concluded that you're better off just buying a computer actually designed for Windows 10, meaning 2016 or later. This is nothing new, though Intel's crappy GPUs before 2016 are a big reason.

I've been preparing for the last three weeks. I'm switching all of my Windows boxes to Linux, and keeping a single Win7 VM. I refuse to put Win10 on any of my machines 11 machines.

(But Yahoo and Gmail do! And do a sh*tty job with anything they find. Even Amazon does a crappy job with their "suggestions", which are just alternatives to what you just bought.)
