Articles like this crack me. If they expose the actual steps, it's usually something like:
1) Create a fake domain controller/network/server to which your computer will log in without issue.
2) Get physical access to the machine.
(and quite often: 3) Magic happens)

If you work too many hours, then you are with the wrong employer.
I don't work too many hours anymore, but I think too much about work, programming and finances. Work is just one aspect of life that should be no more. Do the best you can during your 40 hours per week and then live the rest of your life those other 128 hours.
There was a time when I worked 40 hours a week and took little time off. At the same time I was in undergrad and then graduate school; so my weeks were 50 to 90 hours total. I gave up too much and now try hard not to think about studying or programming in general when not at work. It sometimes works!

Good thoughts. Alas, we must work if we are to eat. And retirement seems like a distant idea which will never materialize. Welll, that's the good thing about IT. Always something to work on.

I agree, 40+ hours of coding leads to wretched code. My ex-employer thrived on slave hours due to a jacked up "architecture". If you are working too hard, stop, please stop. There is always a smarter way to do it that adds more value.

IMO the most disturbing part of that isn't that the average number of hours worked per week is about 50; but that it's 50 despite half of us not working overtime. That means that the average overtime working IT person is doing 60(!) hours/week.
