“It’s at least as good as our best customer service representative, and it’s probably on average better,” said Wendy's CIO Kevin Vasconi to the Wall Street Journal. After successful early tests, the fifth biggest fast food chain in the USA will start using AI chatbots to interact with drive-thru customers next month. Look, if an AI says I want nine sweet teas instead of one Diet Coke, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to our AI Overlords.

A ransomware intrusion on hardware manufacturer Micro-Star International, better known as MSI, is stoking concerns of devastating supply chain attacks that could inject malicious updates that have been signed with company signing keys that are trusted by a huge base of end-user devices, a researcher said. I've got an MSI graphics card. I guess this means I can never again install new graphics drivers for this computer.

In my case is the motherboard, it is around 2 years old and haven't installed any update, so I guess I could count me as safe (as long as they have just found it out now, but were hacked for a good while... then I could be screwed as others).
This is another proof that there is no 100% security.

You shouldn't have issues with the graphic board as it is an nVidia (or ATI) so you'd install their drivers anyway. MSI does not provide its own drivers for graphic cards AFAIK.
Motherboards are another issue altogether, altough I never had any update for those drivers in years.

Continuing its run of ground-breaking discoveries, the James Webb Space Telescope has snapped the clearest images yet of the dusty disk around the young star Fomalhaut. If you'd known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would have hidden from it in terror.

In the world of databases, Redis stands out as unique. Instead of the usual tables or documents that are the central focus of most databases, with Redis, you interact directly with low-level data structures such as linked lists and hash tables. Once upon a time, a developer tried to use MySQL for real-time applications ...

Recently, a think tank called Applied Physics—based in New York and focused on understanding and eventually creating a warp drive—got one step closer to making that dream a reality by creating an in-lab “black hole” primarily out of sound waves and glycerin. Things are only impossible until they're not

Quote: ...Critically, a real-life warp drive would not just be a power source that makes you go really, really fast. Rather, it’d be an engine that “warps” the fabric of spacetime around the user, allowing a ship to travel great distances without actually having to physically move across those distances. ... According to a paper published by researchers from Applied Physics in 2021, “warping” spacetime like that could theoretically be possible under the current laws of physics. And as we know, there is no better way to warp spacetime than with intense gravity... I think I'll pass on that type of travel. If they create that 'intense gravity' around you, at least you never have to go through the Event Horizon?
On the other hand, "The Black Hole" - a little childhood nostalgia. The scariest robot I remember.

One of the longest running schisms in programming is that of static vs dynamic typing. I've heard a million arguments from both sides throughout my entire career, but seen very few of them ever convinced anyone of anything. Ruby with explicit, static typing would be like a salad with a scoop of ice cream.

I've been bit by runtime bugs relating to dynamic typing too many times over the years. I'll stick with static typing, thank you. Even though it means I have to explicitly convert between types I find static typing far better matches my mindset.

I believe the argument is that everyone is realizing that dynamic typing sucks, which is why TypeScript is so popular and why "new" languages are static typed. Of course, maybe this is just the WrongMarc dynamic type.

Here’s a keynote I gave at RubyConf Mini last year: Learning DNS in 10 years. It’s about strategies I use to learn hard things. I just noticed that they’d released the video the other day, so I’m just posting it now even though I gave the talk 6 months ago. Why do people find DNS so difficult? It's just cache invalidation and naming things.

Windows 11’s Settings panel has been seen with a number of adverts in test builds of the OS, in what’s becoming a sadly familiar theme for preview builds of late. Takes me back to the Kazaa and Limewire days.
