I’m writing to let you know that we will end our investment in Unity8, the phone and convergence shell. We will shift our default Ubuntu desktop back to GNOME for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Because once you go GNOME, you can never go home
Is that my coat?
Also, maybe Microsoft will take the hint that 'one OS for all devices' isn't a great plan after all.

No, dammit! I want Windows on my phone! And I want a spare phone in case it's awful! But I wants it!

It took them a while to spot the gap in the desktop market, left by windows going "mobile first".

In order to drive the business’ competitive advantage, software architects need to mix three ingredients into the “evolutionary cauldron” if they want to keep up: agility, velocity, and modularity. Why, with new AgilScrumDevSecOpsML, of course!
“Stop thinking about where the business will be in three years; it’s moving too fast. Rather, refocus those energies on doing a better job on integrating data and functionality. This is the future of software architecture.”
Yes, please

In other news, a developers' conference was told that developers hold all the power, a tea-ladies' conference was told that tea ladies hold all the power, and a public-toilet-cleaners' conference was told to be careful what they take a powerful hold of.

This is entirely funny, they can't even control the changes they want to implement in the system.
I have a good, close and personal experience of software architects whining about how they are treated — treated, as in the negative way. Because, we are all aware, it is not the software architect who decides the software, but the boss.

A good architecture requires planning (and a skilled developer, not a junior developer.)
Unfortunately, planning, and particularly doing a better job on integrating data and functionality flies in the face of the boss' requirement for "agility" and "velocity", which is syntactical sugar for "fast and cheap."
Funny though - integrating and modularity are rather orthogonal, which is indicative of just how confused people are about software development.

The moron who made the defective product tweeted: The firing of the customer ~~ Firing customers, now? And denying them use of their property?
WTF is the world coming to?
The arrogance shown by ms appears to be filtering down to the lowliest, cr@ppiest levels of software development.
I'd ban the product from the store, if that's the way he treats his customers.

I have worked with a number of home automation/security companies in the past. My approach has always been fully operative onsite systems enhanced with network services. These companies have all insisted on cloud service dependency as a result, I no longer work with them. Here is a great example why consumers should not buy into cloud services, you are at the mercy of the cloud owner/operator, even making purchased equipment worthless at their doing.
I only do cloud services if I have complete control of the cloud and would recomend others do the same.

It would be nice... but I really doubt it.

Now 20 years since launching from Earth, and after 13 years orbiting the ringed planet, Cassini is running low on fuel. In 2010, NASA decided to end the mission with a purposeful plunge into Saturn this year in order to protect and preserve the planet's moons for future exploration—especially the potentially habitable Enceladus.
