Slowing demand and economic pressures are a drag, but AI waits at the end of the rainbow "The worst is not, so long as we can say "This is the worst.""

Great - that means those of us who are trying to hire will have an easier time of it. Nah, Nadella's flat out wrong on this one.

Artificial intelligence can replicate any voice, including the emotions and tone of a speaker. Nothing bad will come of this

Make Cortana's voice into HAL 9000 - I may actually start using Cortana! I haven't gone by 'Dave' before, but I would for that!

Now is it pronounced
V-ah-ll-E rhyming with the little Disney robot
OR
V-a-ll-E like the uncanny one?
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.

You'd think that would be on one of the voice samples. Or at least I'd think that, but I'm wrong.

Microsoft has reportedly been looking at ways of integrating OpenAI’s GPT features into Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. It'll be Clippy, but with a moustache.
And I'm looking forward to the auto-generated PowerPoint presentations. ("Give me 75 motivational slides on teamwork, in the style of Mondrian")

Having Microsoft develop something with AI and adding it to there already bloated products? Shoot me now.

Excellent article that rings true for my experiences at Adobe during the creation of what became Acrobat (by a skunk-works team of 4). Also very true of ... the codebase no one understands any more, and no one dare change ... that can only be patched ... my experiences with working on Illustrator and PhotoShop.

Quote: As always, a disclaimer before we start, this is purely subjective. Very modest. Skimming this article, it looks to be about bang on, so I'll be reading it more carefully...
EDIT: An excellent article that anyone near entry level in software should read. One of the best I've read, period.

Researchers have found it surprisingly easy to upload malicious Visual Studio Code extensions to the VSCode Marketplace, and discovered signs of threat actors already exploiting this weakness. Who knew letting anyone write and publish plugins would be so fraught with problems?
I mean, _no one_ could have seen this coming, right: /end-sarcasm

A newly discovered comet could be visible to the naked eye as it shoots past Earth and the Sun in the coming weeks for the first time in 50,000 years, astronomers have said. "At first it had been an almost telescopic speck; it had brightened to the dimensions of the greatest star in the heavens"

C++ is notorious for its slow build times. “My code's compiling” is a meme in the programming world, and C++ keeps this joke alive. JavaScript would like to enter the conversation
