As cybersecurity experts scramble to stop another wave of ransomware and malware scams that have infected computers around the world, computer science experts are 'phishing' for reasons why these types of attacks are so successful. "Participants could not detect the real emails with any degree of confidence."

Because information that helps them avoid detection is so readily available online. Duh.

So their advice is "don't open e-mails unless you're sure you know where they come from"?
Well, I'm glad someone finally thought of that! I've been wracking my brain for a solution!

Computer scientists from Saarland University and Google are giving wrinkles, knuckles and birthmarks a whole new meaning. Similarly to temporary tattoos for children, the researchers are placing ultra-thin, electronic tattoos on distinctive body locations. The user can touch, squeeze or pull them, and thereby intuitively control mobile devices such as a music player, or easily make indicators light up. Press the heart tattoo to phone Mom?

It is that sort of technology then?

The latest version of Android incorporates more machine learning, faster performance and better notifications. "Fluid Experiences" and "Vitals". Sounds like they crossed it with Game of Thrones

Reports show that the new ‘Adylkuzz’ attacks are on a scale that “could dwarf” the WannaCry attack, and use the infected computers to mine virtual currency. Jokes on them: I don't have any currency anywhere

Digital "miners" run specially configured computers to solve the problems and generate currency, whose value ultimate fluctuates according to market demand. Math pays. Who'da thunk? (Seems kind of esoteric to me...)
Sudden Sun Death Syndrome (SSDS) is a very real concern which we should be raising awareness of. 156 billion suns die every year before they're just 1 billion years old.
While the military are doing their part, it simply isn't enough to make the amount of nukes needed to save those poor stars. - TWI2T3D (Reddit)

It's actually a straight forward but brute force computation called a Hashcash but usually you allocate all the computer resources to find a solution rather than implementing it as some low level background process, since, for bitcoin at least, I believe it requires some specialized hardware / GPU's. I'm surprised embedding a background miner worked at all.

My snark wasn't clear enough - sorry. The fact that solving a math problem leads to money in that way seems esoteric, and stupid, to me. But if people want to pay...
Edit - interesting article, by the way! Thanks for the link.

I looked into this a while back and found that the amount you pay in energy costs are more than what you would actually receive in bitcoin.
There is no such thing as "something for nothing".
When you are dead, you won't even know that you are dead. It's a pain only felt by others.

If you're paying for hardware and power then yes you either need the latest and greatest ASIC miner or to be mining some me-too coin that doesn't have a dedicated ASIC yet. But if you're stealing resources it doesn't matter how inefficient they are since the cost to you is zero.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
