Not that it isn't cool, but couldn't they make the core changes necessary to Windows code, and then let you add the package for the full subsystem from the MS store if you wanted? This '64 Gig disk space needed to update' is getting ridiculous, and I don't foresee using Linux on my machine. (Or Candy Crush, or any of the other stuff they are pushing on us for that matter. Heck, I haven't even played Solitaire in years.)

AFAIK WSL is still an optional component, the title text here overstates its pervasiveness.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Quote: WSL 2 will also use a similar split as the current WSL does: the kernel component will be shipped with Windows while "personalities" as provided by the various Linux distributions can be installed from the Microsoft Store. From the article ^. The sentences give me the impression the kernel will add something to the main installer. Don't know how much, or if it is possible to plug that kernel in later. But it isn't something I'll use.

It's actually better to install Linux for day-to-day stuff, and Windows in a VM if you have apps that don't have an acceptable Linux analog, such as Visual Studio or DVD ripping software.

Oh, come on! You know you really want to run Linux in a Windows VM on a Linux machine! /s!

This way if MS screws it even harder, you just need to delete a VM instead of reinstalling everything

If you haven’t heard of IntelliCode, it’s a set of AI-assisted capabilities that aims to improve developer productivity with features like contextual IntelliSense, code formatting and style rule inference. "It's dangerous to go alone, take this"

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) have used a standard smartwatch to figure out when a wearer was typing on a keyboard, washing dishes, petting a dog, pouring from a pitcher or cutting with scissors. Microsoft is building an end-to-end toolchain to help make it easier for every developer and every organization to create autonomous systems for their own scenarios — whether that’s a robot that can help in life-threatening situations, a drone that can inspect remote equipment or systems that help reduce downtime in a factory by autonomously calibrating equipment. It looks like you're trying to build a robot army. Would you like help with that?

All the years of derision has caused Clippy to go over to the dark side. Still super-helpful, Clippy is now helping the wrong people. Evil Clippy can be identified by the goatee
I jest - all Clippys are evil.

Wall Street Journal contacts claim that the search firm is poised to launch a "dashboard-like" element in Chrome that would not only show more detail about tracking cookies, but give you options to limit them That's for non-Google cookies, right?

tl;dr:
google hardly uses tracking cookies any more, because they've got so much other tracking stuff buiit into everything else they're involved in, but most of its rivals still rely on them.

VS as a service is only just around the corner -- wait until you hear the term "VS 365", then bite the bullet and start trying out other IDEs.
