Microsoft announced that it is rolling out the Windows 10 November 2021 update, also called Windows 10 21H2, to Windows 10 20H2 devices as an exercise to train its Machine Learning (ML)-assisted Windows Update Rollout model. A secret look at the "model": if win.version < 2111 {force-update();}

and if (not to say "when") something goes wrong... the ML is responsible, or even better, the users, because they didn't train it properly

They should version the machine learning model as 2-4-19-13. And then keep it there.

Microsoft quietly shipped Visual Studio 2022 v17.1 Preview 3 with enhancements to web tools. They were so excited, they forgot to tell us about it

Well maybe there were no new icons, so nothing worth mentioning.

When caught, was it still trying to clean the really big room, or had it given up?

Project Iris may be the name of the effort. I thought they cancelled that already?

Curiosity breeds creativity. The demand for creative software solutions is constant, but curiosity comes and goes. Only PEEK at your code

Don't look at other people's code. It's a curiosity killer. I'm actually quite serious.

All good points, especially the last. I expect that at some time in the not-too-distant future, software engineers will have to be licensed, just as civil engineers are today.
Anyone can design and build a doghouse or (possibly) a log cabin, but if you want to design and build a house or anything larger, you'd better have the appropriate license.

I certainly hope software engineers don't get licensed.

Certainly isn't a lack of curiosity demonstrated above.

A global survey of 1,600 enterprise IT decision-makers found more than half are working for organizations that plan to eliminate the use of data centers over the next two years. Followed by a massive migration from the cloud in a few years, repeat as necessary

Right. Tell that to hospitals or any other mission critical data management, where if the Internet goes down, suddenly all work stops. And such work might include surgery, life-saving NOW treatment, airplanes landing, etc.
Then again, those 1600 enterprise IT decision-makers probably don't work in mission critical industries. Our customers (municipalities) have conniption fits as it is, and they're just entering fees and permits.

I'd say that Thomas J Watson probably was right: I think there is a world market for about five cloud services.
