The Windows Sandbox is a temporary virtual machine built into Windows 10 and Windows 11 that allows you to run software without it affecting the rest of your system. Just keep the cats out

Maybe they should have named it Windows Litterbox!

Why do I think I will continue using VMWare or VirtualBox?

The tech giant is creating a digital identity wallet where users can store private documentation that could be available as soon as August this year. "Cogito, ergo sum" (I think)

It’s a waste of time to try to learn every new technology. Instead, focus on learning how to learn. Learn one thing really well? Nah, that's crazy-talk.

I figured this out years ago. Unfortunately until HR departments stop listing as requirements every new framework or language under the sun the pressure will still be on developers.

Since the day it was open sourced in 2009, the Go programming language has consistently grown in popularity. It was the $200 every time you went around the board, wasn't it?

I'm going to say that it was because the other options available for Googler's were C/C++ (too low level for much of their work), Java ('nuff said), or Python (fuzzy typing/etc didn't scale well to large projects).
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Although Microsoft regularly adds enhancements to Excel, it occasionally removes some too. But they left the hacking targets in because those are high usage
I thought there were a fair number of people using the Money features. I guess they all aged out (or they're still using Excel 2000)
|
|
|
|
|
Interesting - all three of these features literally cost Microsoft money, as in they have to pay other companies access fees.
|
|
|
|
|
? I understand the last two, but Money was theirs, wasn't it? Or do you mean because they'd be paying to download the bank transactions?

Money was indeed a Microsoft product, and in fact I still use the Money Sunset Edition. Microsoft had to pay for access to banks for downloads.

Then I’d say you were definitely right. Cut costs, and brand it as, “we’re streamlining the app for you.”
Pretty sneaky, our friends in Redmond.

Around the time computers were old enough to drink, software engineering guru Gerald Weinberg said: "If builders built buildings the way programmers wrote programs, then the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization." "What you gonna do with your problem? The problem is you."
It does seem to take a while for him to get to the main thesis of his article: "We badly need real product liability for software."

The author is a pontificating cretin.
Quote: Gerald Weinberg said: "If builders built buildings the way programmers wrote programs, then the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization." Clients of buildings don't ask for a new storey to be added in each "release".
Quote: "following the industry best practice" is not going to cut it. The implication is that the industry is incompetent and that he's better. So why doesn't he start a software company? He'd easily put competitors out of business. Or maybe he really is that much better, in which case he's essentially complaining that his skills are far superior.
Quote: Governments have finally noticed that a well-run nation-state... Now I'm wetting myself with laughter.
Quote: We badly need real product liability for software. See my article... Nothing prevents liability from being specified in contracts. Maybe it isn't because software is hard, so few will agree to it.
Quote: The time is way overdue for IT engineers to be subject to professional liability He'd fit right in with the EU bureaucrats who can't foresee the negative consequences of their meddling.

Not only all these, but his assertion that only plumbers can correctly install toilets or that only electricians can install circuits is false. Many homeowners can do both of these and meet building codes. I've even seen "professional" electricians install circuits that don't meet code.

One app, Dieta Mobile, uses AI to describe poop more accurately than patients themselves, according to a new randomized clinical trial But it's going to remember you made it do that when it takes over the world
Yes, it also uses a 'naughty' word in the article. Apologies to those offended.

Reminds me of an article I read, which claimed that doctors used the term "9 F-er" to describe the typical gall bladder patient:
Fat fecund flatulent female, fortyish, with foul frothy floating feces.

I don't need AI for this. I've been looking at mine for over 60 years...
