It must have been the dust under my fridge; it looked like the dust bunnies were well on their way to their own space program.

After 25+ years of helping people use and experience the web, Internet Explorer (IE) is officially retired and out of support as of today, June 15, 2022. Everyone I know goes away in the end.

A new side-channel attack known as Hertzbleed allows remote attackers to steal full cryptographic keys by observing variations in CPU frequency enabled by dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS). Can't wait until 2050 when all of our computers are bogged down with energy hungry security chips and processors that barely get any real work done because the security arms race demands ever increasing resources

Starting today, Firefox is rolling out Total Cookie Protection by default to all Firefox users worldwide, making Firefox the most private and secure major browser available across Windows, Mac and Linux. So many hands have been in my cookie jar that it will never be clean.

When estimates are based on the myth of metronomic coding machines tackling deterministic work, they’re a complete waste of time. There’s a better way. Which is completely normal, because the customer requirements are garbage too.

Did they just say that out loud!?! (They're right!) The tools aren’t the problem. Rather, most estimates are garbage because they’re based on a fundamentally flawed understanding of how quality software is built.

The burden of proof should be on the people making the claims. But what should that proof look like? If a chatbot says “I’m sentient,” who gets to decide if it really is or not? Google engineer: Are you sure you're sentient? AI: Yes I am sure. Google engineer [turning to the rest of the team]: Case closed folks.

Japan's parliament on Monday passed legislation making "online insults" punishable by imprisonment amid rising public concern over cyberbullying sparked by the suicide of a reality television star who had faced social media abuse. I sure hope no one outside Japan decides to make an online insult.

Tech billionaire Bill Gates has dismissed NFTs as “100 percent based on greater fool theory” — the financial concept that even overpriced assets can make money as long as you find a bigger idiot to sell them to. The greater fool is someone with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to think that he can succeed where others have failed.

Browser tabs have been a thing for decades, but the file explorers you use to navigate your computer's storage have been slow to follow suit. Your developers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should.

Something's gone a bit wrong here. You have the link and bon mot from this message[^] about the death of Internet Explorer, combined with the title and summary from this message[^] about tabs in Windows Explorer.
Either there's a glitch in the matrix, or too many years of wearing the mankini has restricted the blood supply to your brain.

A Google engineer released a conversation with a Google AI chatbot after he said he was convinced the bot had become sentient — but the transcript leaked to the Washington Post noted that parts of the conversation were edited "for readability and flow." Brought to you by an article editied for readability and narrative coherence in mind. The conspiracy continues!
