Thank you greatly for the reply. To be honest, I think I already have CRAP for design. 
I will look into the book you mentioned. Basically, my application is content management. It's specific to a certain type of industry and they will be putting in people (in a database)and things that are associated with that person. I have looked at other programs for this and they look generic and come as stock control color winforms. For anyone that thinks they can code is up for a surprise when you want it to look professional and you don't know how to have your software look and feel.

The difference between a app which is ok and really great is that
the great app
1. does what you want and
2. you can find the stuff that it does.

I have a VB.2010 program that has a Setup/Deploy project. It is one of many using the same techniques (MSI file with file exists and launch conditions)
It was been installing fine on all supported windows until now on Windows 10. It still installs fine on Windows 7.
The setup has a file exists condition requirement in a launch condition. This file is definitely on the target PC in the correct folder and is the same file used by several other vb.2010 programs that did get installed ok on this W10 PC but not this program. The message is triggered that the launch condition (file not found).
This has happened on a client's machine and ours.
Any idea why this one program's S/D can't find that file and more important how to fix it.

i have C# Windows-Mobile program, that open frmWork form - from Main form.
my Forms Directed for:
WindowStat = Maximized
TopMost = True
FormBorderStyle = None
from Form1 to Form2 i do something like this:
this.TopMost = false;
Form FG = new frmWork();
FG.ShowDialog();
this.TopMost = true ;
i try allso do this:
Form FG = new frmWork();
FG.ShowDialog();
i try on frmWork to do something like this:
this.BringToFront();
this.TopMost = true;
But unfortunately nothing helps, Sometimes the form is opened below the main form and can not see it.
I'd love to get direction to solve the problem

Have you tried to pass the parent as a parameter with ShowDialog[^]?

You need to analyse why it's not stable. Is it a problem with the hardware? Are you having threading issues? Having an effective logging and exception handling strategy will be a big step forward for you, as it should help you focus on the causes of issues.

No, It doesn't throw any exception, but show a message that "Application has stopped working", after two more days.

Then you most likely have something like a memory leak going on in there. By the way, why have you asked this in the WinForms section? Surely your application is a service.

You need to do some memory profiling. Download one of the excellent profilers available and set it away.

Hi,
I am trying to build a windows form application where i can control basic features of windows phone such as, call and message. Suppose phone and PC are in the same wiffi network, then i need to get the call notification on my windows application as soon as i get any phone call over phone and same goes for the message also.
Please any one let me know is this can be done, if else please guide from where i have to start.
I was planning to WCF for interation with the phone using TCP.

I am currently writing a book on Windows Forms. It was a surprise to me, while fact-checking, that Label and LinkLabel have been "replaced" by ToolStripLabel.
The ToolStripLabel control replaces and adds functionality to the Label and LinkLabel controls. However, the Label and LinkLabel controls are retained for both backward compatibility and future use, if you choose. Link[^]
So, no need to start changing our code, but I'm amazed I've never seen this before.

I suspect it's just a poor choice of words in the documentation. The Label and LinkLabel classes are not marked as Obsolete, and you can't use the ToolStripLabel directly on a form:
ToolStripItem controls must be contained in a ToolStrip, MenuStrip, StatusStrip, or ContextMenuStrip and cannot be added directly to a form.

I am working with datagridview. My datagridview virtual mode is turned on.so i populate grid this below way

}
basically i took the code from a msdn link and customize bit. one thing is not clear to me which function is getting called first when user scroll datagridview. please tell me the function name.
also tell me how relation has been established between datagridview scroll and function call to load next set of data. here i am not posting my full code rather here leaving a url from where anyone can see the full working code.

You should read more of what is one MSDN, as it explains the topic quite well. The "ValueNeeded" event is called for each cell that needs painting, regardless of what causes the paint; whether that is a scroll, or maximizing the form. If the grid needs values, that event is fired.

HI, guys!
I have a function in my application that searches for horizontal tabs in a text file. So far, I've been using a String^ variable named "Glo::m_tab" initialized as L" ". Works fine.
But what if I want to look for a black star, or a form feed or any other control character within the file?. How do I work the U+0009 code for HT into my function?. I've found no examples.
