Iam trying to develop a Treeview where the user can only view childnodes of a node only one at a time. eg. Suppose the user clicks on Node 1 its childnodes shall be visible, the moment he clicks on Node2, only Node2's child nodes shall be visible, Node1's childnodes would have collapsed. My questions are ;
i) Is it possible to do so using only XAML (No code in VB to be written)
ii)If possible where could I get articles/guidelines/manuals etc. on this subject.
Best Wishes ....... ARIJIT

Please don't cross-post, it's considered rude and isn't generally going to help you get an answer faster. The other post is here[^].

Sorry, couldn't understand where to post XAML query, since there was no separate category or XAML.
Hope you will have a separate forum dedicated to XAML.

It seems like you were able to find the WPF related forum a few minutes after you posted here, so it looks like you were able to find the right forum. There isn't a dedicated forum for XAML, but since WPF uses XAML (and XAML is currently only used in WPF) that would the correct forum.
Normally it is discouraged from deleting posts, particularly if there have been responses to it, but for situations like this in the future you can either delete the other post or simply put a link in it redirecting to the correct one. That way, when other people have the same issue they can find the answer without having to jump around between forums.

I hope this isn't a dumb question.
I am working on an ASP .NET web application that will take a lot (thousands and thousands) of PDF files and allow users to search for a file/group of files and display them on the web page. Then the user can click the one they want and open it.
There are so many files that I don't want to access the directory structure every time someone searches for a file. So my question is this - should I store the file names/paths in a database or should I maybe use some sort of XML file? I would update it once a day or so. I have never really worked with XML before and was wondering if this would be a good application for it. Thank you for any ideas.

Yes, a database. Of course that database may be XML...
I do a similar thing, with a Windows Service periodically looking for new files to add to the index.

I have 2 text box Controls on form and i have to save the contents entered into this in XML file. When i enter text through keyboad into this two text box, these are saved into XML file. But When i want to save File path( like C:\xyz\patient.bmp ) which is returned by openFileDialogBox control, this path can't be save into XML file.
Where is the problem.
I have to set any Textbox property or XML can't save this type of format?. then to save this format any Type casting is reqiured in XML?
Code is like this
XmlNode^ imgnode = doc->CreateNode(XmlNodeType::Element,"imgFile","");
imgnode ->InnerText = txtimageFile->Text;
node->AppendChild(imgnode);
When I debug it, Imagefile text box contain text like;
txtimageFile->Text = “C:\xyz\patient.bmp”
this path is not save into XML file. It is not giving any error while saving.
If you enter normal text through keyboard ( like patient details), it will save. Then what's the problem.?
Please reply

I cannot reproduce the problem. This likely means it is due to a bug of your own making.

Do you save the XML document?

Let's say I have 3 tables which are Users, Groups and UserGroup, where a user can be a member of multiple groups and a group can obviously contain multiple users. The UserGroup table is simply a 2 column table that maintains the many-to-many relationship within the database, and this all works perfectly.
--------- ------------- ----------
| Users | 1 ----- many | UserGroup | many ----- 1 | Groups |
--------- ------------- ----------
When I attempt to load these three tables into an XML document (via a dataset) it fails with an error saying "A child row has multiple parents" - presumably because the link table (UserGroup) contains duplicate UserID's and GroupID's (Which it should!). I've tried adding an artificial primary key to the UserGroup table, but it still doesn't work.
The current code is below, and a sample of the output that I would like is also provided. What do I need to do to get this to work correctly? I've been Googling all morning, but I can't seem to find anything with an actual answer!
SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter( "sproc", connection );
da.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
da.Fill(ds);
ds.Tables[0].TableName = "User";
ds.Tables[1].TableName = "Group";
ds.Tables[2].TableName = "UserGroup";
DataRelation ea1 = ds.Relations.Add(
ds.Tables["User"].Columns["UserID"],
ds.Tables["UserGroup"].Columns["UserID"],
false);
DataRelation ea2 = ds.Relations.Add(
ds.Tables["Group"].Columns["GroupID"],
ds.Tables["UserGroup"].Columns["GroupID"],
false);
ea1.Nested = true;
XmlDataDocument doc = new XmlDataDocument(ds);
I'm looking for something like this:
<Groups>
<Group>
<GroupName>Astronauts</GroupName>
<Users>

<Users>
</Group>
<Group>
<GroupName>Americans</GroupName>
<Users>

</Users>
</Group>
</Groups>
Does anyone know how to do this (or something very similar)? It would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

hi
i am new to PMML(Preditive model markup langauge).
i am not getting how to write PMML Data in xml using vc++.
could you please any one.

From the wikipedia page on PMML
PMML is an XML-based language This is key because your question then has nothing to do with PMML. Your problem is you don't know how to work with XML. That is a significant sized problem making it a poor candidate for a question on an internet forum. There is no easy copy/paste solution for you. The reality is you will have to dig into learning XML and it's related technologies to accomplish your project.
For using VC++ the MSDN Web site will contain much information including tutorials and example code. Other major resources are the two web sites TopXML and www.w3schools.com. On all these sites you will find that one very common technique for working with XML in VC++ is to use the COM component MSXML.
Good luck

Hi everyone ,
I have a really big question about editing large XML files. Im building a little XML Database engine (like a mini database engine using xml as a storage). I can create tables and select data from them.
My question is: since the XmlDocument class loads the entire xml data into memory and data files could take longer than 100 MB, Which is the best way to modify data on large XML files?
For example:
If i have the next XML file:
<invoices>
<invoice id="1">
<amount>100,000.00</amount>
<currency>Dolar</currency>
<refnum1>9486692001</refnum1>
<refnum2>NULL</refnum2>
<createdate>2008-05-19 4:21:34.532 PM</createdate>
</invoice>
...
</invoices>
And that file has like 500.000 rows on it, how can i modify the value of the single node 'RefNum2' where the invoice id is '1' without using the XmlDocument class?
I know i can use the XPathNavigator using the xpath string 'Invoices/Invoice[@id="1"]' but how can i set the value and save the file?
This is driving me nuts ! haha

The core issue is probably that you'd be better off using a database.
Is there a SAX implimentation in .NET ? I'd think that's whaty ou need.

Hi all! Using MSXML 6.
1. So I have a DOM. I add CDATA section. I save. I get xml with <CDATA[[my data here in it but no indentation. - we know DOM doesn't "pretty print". Ok.
2. Now I add ISAXXMLReader/IMXWriter pair to handle formatting of my output xml from DOM and get indentation but CDATA section declaration is lost.
I mean in the out put I get: my data here
So how do I keep CDATA section declaration? Who losses it? The writer? The reader that reads DOM?
Thanks a lot in advance!

When validating an XML file against an schema using an XMLReader we get errors of the following format
The 'MobilePhone' element has an invalid value according to its data type. An error occurred at file:///C:/temp/test.xml, (508588, 3).
I was wondering if it was somehow possible to use the ValidationEventHandler to get an XPath to the element that had failed as the line number/column is not very helpful or is there a different technique that would allow us to get the same?

Hi,
I'm using an xml and xslt files as UI interface for mfc application.
One of the issues I'm trying to solve is image size in html document. Some of the html pages display external images and I can't control the image size (in the xml I have the image width and height). Although I can specify the width and height to display, not keeping the right ratio distorts the image. So, I wrote an xslt function to calculate the size to use. I kept getting the error "Namespace 'http://whatever' does not contain any functions." (sample from http://www.xml.com/lpt/a/1278[^] until I've found in the net the cause: IE7 doesn't supprt xslt 2.0.
As I see it, I have two options:
1. Find out what needed to support xslt 2.0 in IE.
2. Use MFC function from within the xsl file.
Do you see other options? please advice...
Thanks,
Yariv
