Basically looking for templates..
I feel every once in a while, the quality of the doc I produce must be of a continuously improving quality.
Visio templates for, Architecture Overviews, model, infrastructure, class diagrams..
I would like like to see some complete technical spec of what other guys are doing, so call best of breed samples.
PS, thanks for your comments

I wouldn't be able to show you any architecture or design documents because it would be company confidential. I would recon most people would be in the same boat.
Look though the docs that you have done so far and see what the common elements are - they should be in your template.

Hi,
I'm working as an ASP.NET developer in a samll company for the past 1 month, and prior to that I was working on Windows Applications using VB.NET. I would like to get Microsoft certified on .NET, could I have advice on how to proceed with this.
I don't want to learn some dump questions and get certified, whats the right way of approach for this.

Obviously you need to use the technology that you are going to be getting the certification in. The nice thing is that the newest tests for .NET 2.0 do allow you to pick the programming language that you take the test in first.
I usually get 2 books that correspond to the test. There are also some practice tests available (I am not talking about brain dumps, but actual practice questions). I usually do not use the practice tests, just the 2 books and then using the technology. Review what MS says is on the test and make sure that you know about it.
When I was taking the .NET 2.0 exams, alot of the questions were related to things that I was adding to my shareware application. I was able to apply what i was working on to the exam.

Hi Steve,
Thanks alot for the information. Could you suggest a few books for C# 2.0 (MCP), and/or other resources in the internet.

My two cents: Wrox publishes a number of good books on C# 2.0 and .net 2.0. I am using it for MCAD
I am also studying MCAD using C# (only just started). I am doing it throug a certified training provider. they provided my with Visual Studio 2003 books (all Microsoft published). I want to know if by studying C# using version 2003 of Visual Studio and the books on ver 1 of C#, that by the time I get certified (which might end of the year as I am doing it part time) I will be way behind the latest developments in C#.
Or will what I learn now using 2003 version still be applicable and I can just get up to speed with the new additions to the language and I will be fine?

Not sure if you're still looking, but I recently started studying up for 70-326 (Win dev w/ C# .NET 2.0) and am using these two books:
Pro C# 2005 and the >NET 2.0 Platform by Andrew Troelsen[^]
MCTS Self-paced Training Kit[^]
I found some typos already in the Training kit, but by working out the labs and reading both books I'm sure I'll work out the correct way to do things. I've also considered buying Transcender practice questions. A couple of co-workers have used them and found them very helpful.

Someone told me that to take these exams, not only you need to have practical experience in the relevant technologies, but you will need to have an experience document as proof (signed by your employer) which you will need to show to the test center or MS, before you qualify to take the exams.
Is this correct? I could not however find such information in MS exams information site.
Can somebody throw light on this.
What if i am an independant software developer/vendor. How do i get the experience certificate?
A self certification will help?

|

There is one certification that you have to be nominated by your employer for. But for that one there are no exams. It is a nomination with supporting documentation. For any of the certifications I have NEVER had to give anything from my employer. And I do have a few certs...

Thanks for that note!
However, if we browse the MCPD and MCTS MS web site, it actually does say that the audience (exam takers) need to have at least 2-3 years of experience in those technologies in order to take those exams.
So, do we need to take some expereince certificate to teh center, so that we can take the exams?

I cannot find that on the Microsoft site.... what link says that? I have NEVER had to do that at all for any of my certifications.

Hi All,
I have created sequential workflow using Visual Studio 2005. Also created some forms using InfoPath 2007 and added to the Visual Studio project. And finally published the workflow in to my sharepoint site. And I am able to see the workflow which was published. Then I activated the workflow and associated the workflow to specific document library. For the same document library, I added the new task. I am able to see the another new tasks which created by workflow. But when I click on that task, site is trying to open the form which was created in InfoPath 2007. But it is showing the error as form cannot be opened, workflows is enabled as browser enabler. I don't know Why this error is comming? I was created the forms in InfoPath 2007 with browser enabled compatibility feature.
If any one solve this problem, please guide me in solving the problem.
Thanks in Advance,

Hi, while I was downloading the team foundation server, that error appeared to me, which says that I need to install "ASP.NET 2.0 QFE KB913393". I can't find anything named so to install. Many people on many forms had that error too but I can't find an answer to it there, so I hopped that anyone could help me in that.
please help

It always amazes me that so few people who ask questions in a forum know how to use a search engine. Just typing "KB913393" into Google, Yahoo, AND Microsoft's Search box on MSDN and again on Microsoft's Support page, came up with this KB article[^] describing exactly what you're talking about.

Hi Everyone,
Can someone provide some information on what type of responsibilities
come with jobs in the data layer?
I presently work in middleware, and I find interfacing with multiple
systems difficult and painful. I've often been told that life in the
data layer is peaceful and easier compared to life in middleware, as
it involves much lesser coding. (Mainly complex SQL and huge stored
procs only).
Does anyone have some idea what people really do in the data layer?
I'm not talking about DB admins and architects, but the general
employees of the data layer. And is it also true that one has to be
fairly experienced to get into a job in the data layer?
Some advice regarding this would be really helpful, as I'm thinking of
a career switch.
Thanks in advance.

I guess no one here knows anything about the worklife in the database layer.
how strange.

Probably the reason you didn't get any replies is that working in the data layer is much of a muchness with working anywhere else in a piece of software.
Bulky Fellow wrote: I've often been told that life in the

Does it? If there is less quantity it is probably because there is more thought put into it. But then, if people put more thought into the code they write elsewhere there would be less quantity and higher quality.
Bulky Fellow wrote: Does anyone have some idea what people really do in the data layer?
Query the database. I don't really know how to answer that. It is pretty much like working anywhere else. You write code, you test code, you fix bugs, you release/deploy the code.
Bulky Fellow wrote: the general

I'm not sure that the data layer, being an abstract concept, can employ anyone. It would be your company that employed you.
Bulky Fellow wrote: And is it also true that one has to be

Not if some of the complete crap I've had to deal with is any indication.
I would suspect you would have to know more about how databases work than in any other layer, but that's about it. It is just like working anywhere else - You have to know how the thing you are interfacing with works.

It is hardly a career switch.

You're either posting in the wrong place, or cross posting the entire site. This should be in the VB forum, and no-where else.
You *think* it's that line ? What does the compiler say ? It looks like the params you're specifying are wrong. Break this line into many steps and see which one fails to compile.

See the setup log file located at 'C:\DOCUME~1\SUNIL~1.MER\LOCALS~1\Temp\VSD293.tmp\install.log' for more information.
Can you tell me any solution for this.Waiting for the solution.

I guess you might have another project with the same name that was intsalled previously..Just check in the add/remove programs whether there is yet another program with the same name..if yes you need to uninstall that first..

If I attended that, why would I wish to help someone else get the job instead of me?
Also, if I were IBM why would I give the job to someone who cannot write proper sentences without degrading into text speak.
