I agree with both RedDK and Ravi but will strongly recommend SQL Server (express or compact) but it may be overkill for what you require. Access bleh may actually be more appropriate.
However some of the other suggestions on small specialised tools (filemaker etc) may be even more appropriate, you should look at them in light of your requirements and skill level. If you are going to develop an app against a database definitely use SQL Server it insure the app has plenty of growth potential.

So create a custom system - basically write your own simple database.
You either used fixed record sizes or create an index to find records. Probably easiest if the index is in another file.
If you go this route then make sure you use an API in your code that completely separates the rest of the code from the storage mechanism. That way you can replace it later on if you want.

Hi all,
I have a project that I'm going to do.There's a table that has to be normalized.I've tried the normalization roughly. But i need your solution just to check mine with yours. Here's the table with sample data.
I hhave taken Pay Item as a primary key:
Pay Item Description Bridge Type Span Unit Quantity
81.02(a)-I Soft materials-0-2m Slab 6 m3 726.092
81.02(a)-I Soft materials-0.2m Slab 8 m3 182.442
81.02(a)-I Soft materials-0.2m Slab 10 m3 255.36
81.02(a)-I Soft materials-0.2m T-Girder 12 m3 726.092
81.02(a)-I Soft materials-0.2m T-Girder 14 m3 329.864
81.02(a)-ii Soft materials Slab 6 m3 123.456
81.02(a)-ii Soft materials Slab 8 m3 240.762
81.02(a)-ii Soft materials T-Girder 12 m3 556.762
81.02(a)-ii Soft materials T-Girder 14 m3 192.56

ah ... no - why dont you post what your table defs etc are - give it your best shot - else for all we know we could be doing your homework - and we dont do homework

Let me show you my trial:
First I put (PayItem,Description and unit)on a single table,
Second (BridgeType,Span, quantity)on another table payitem as a foreign key.
Now bridge type and span are making the redundancy problem, what should i do now?

Doesn't look like it's in 1NF; the primary key isn't an atomic fact, and there are repeating groups.

This is the original table, not the normalized one.

Ah, the old "I've solved it, but I'm not going to show you; I want to see your solution first so I can check" line.
Which translates as, "I haven't solved it; I want you to solve it for me".

Normalization consists of a set of rules that one can apply, one after the other. As is, the table is in 0NF. A "normalized" model is usually in BCNF (3NF+). That means that one verifies the rules for each level.
If you follow the rules (!) we'd get exactly the same model.

Pat Item, Bridge Typeand Unit should be split out as dimension tables.

Hello
I'm going to create my new WPF application. I'm also new with cloud computing. I would like to know if there are cloud services(maybe free, cheap) letting me to use a shared database on the cloud that can be used by different client trough my wpf application.
I'm weak in english language..forgive mistakes

It's hard to get free for a long time..may be i am wrong also.u can check

In your VB code you should already have a connection to the database! That connection will work on the other computer as long as it is networked to the server.

I understand but I think you did not answer my question that I had asked.

Alright lets try a little hand holding!
Does you VB app extract data from sql server - yes
Is there a connection to the database - yes
Is the "other PC" on the same network as the server - you need to answer this question
If the answer is yes then all you need to do is deploy your application to the "other PC"
I STRONGLY suggest you do a LOT of reading on developing and deploying applications, your question indicates you have too little knowledge to complete this task.

Storing some data (which includes Text,URL,image..) into a single Table. And could be assigned into separate fields.
is it possible?if so,how?

Judging from your question I would suggest you get a beginners book on database and start reading as it indicates you have no idea what a database does.
A column and a field are the same thing. A table on the other hand has a collection of columns which may be of different data types so you could store a row/record of data made up of the different data types.
Get book and start studying!

Please omit the second part of the Question.
I meant that for Front end fields.
