That is part of the Enterprise Library. It is not a DAL, it is designed to help you create a DAL more easily.

You need SQL Server 2005. However, you should realise that row numbers are a fiction. Oracle and SQL Server 2005 supply a number based on the order that the rows are returned and have little (only incidental) or no bearing on how the data is actually stored.
Anyway, the answer is ROW_NUMBER[^]

I do not recommend this but you could create a insert/delete trigger that loops through the recordset and inserts the new value. This is a performance hit. A sample trigger is below. You must have a primary key on the table to do this. I am confused of why you need to reference the rownumber. It has no significance. If you dont mind a few holes here and there after you have deleted a record, use an Identity column.
<br />
CREATE TRIGGER dbo.trg_Count <br />
ON dbo._TEST<br />
AFTER INSERT, DELETE<br />
AS <br />
BEGIN<br />
<br />
SET NOCOUNT ON;<br />
DECLARE @PKEY UNIQUEIDENTIFIER<br />
DECLARE @I BIGINT<br />
<br />
IF ((SELECT trigger_nestlevel()) = 1)<br />
BEGIN<br />
DECLARE TRG_TEST_CUR CURSOR FOR<br />
SELECT [GUID] FROM _TEST<br />
<br />
OPEN TRG_TEST_CUR<br />
FETCH NEXT FROM TRG_TEST_CUR<br />
INTO @PKEY<br />
<br />
SET @I = 1<br />
<br />
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0<br />
BEGIN<br />
UPDATE _TEST SET ID = @I WHERE [GUID] = @PKEY<br />
SET @I = @I + 1<br />
FETCH NEXT FROM TRG_TEST_CUR<br />
INTO @PKEY<br />
END<br />
CLOSE TRG_TEST_CUR<br />
DEALLOCATE TRG_TEST_CUR<br />
END<br />
END<br />
GO<br />

You made me confused about the term of "recursive tables". There is no such thing actually because tables cannot be recursive. Regarding your message I suggest you to layout all items such as (Main Category, Sub Category, Child Category and etc.) and each item should have an index for instance lets say that "Fruits" is the main category and it has an index of 01. The banana blongs to Fruits and its index should be 0101. If bana would have a sub category you should index it as 010101... goes on like that...
I sugges you not to use a field as Number but text. That would make it easier to call back the main index.
What a curious mind needs to discover knowledge is noting else than a pin-hole.

I have a a couple of reports that are viewed using the reporting services report viewer control on a aspx page built with visual studio 2003. The report executes just fine. The problem is that the online page count will state a number like 5 but when you print it the real page count is 10. The online count is always off by about half. How can I make the online count be the correct number?
Thanks,
Patrick

Hi,
I have made a trigger on inserting a record in a table in oracle, but the problem is that if trigger fails, then insertion transaction is aborted and rolled back, is it possible to specify some attribute to the trigger so that the transaction is not aborted.

Hi,
I'm writing a wrapper for ADO for some computer game's scripting in C++.
(I compile a dll that extends the game's functionality, and by so add new features to its scripting abilities)
After connecting with a _ConnectionPtr and opening a _RecordsetPtr with an Insert command, how do I get the autonumber column from the inserted row?
I understood that I could do it if I used AddNew instead of an insert command, but that's a problem of circumstance. Mainly relating to the fact I couldn't understand how to easily use this function.
Any help would be appreciated!

What database do you use ?
If SQL Server you can use this query:
Select @@Identity()
|
|
|
|
|
Currently I'm connecting to an Access 2000 database. That might change to Sql Server later on, but not planned to be soon.
And the second thing is, this might be called a lot in different threads, so I can't be sure that between the insert and the Select @@Identity() stuff won't change on me.
|
|
|
|
|
Hi
@@Identity is supported in JET 4.0 (the engine that runs MS Access queries)
Check: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232144[^]
Also @@Identity gets the last insert id for the current open session (Connection), so you should not worry about multiple threads.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to send parameters to a stored procedure as an array using VB 6 , is that possible, and how ?
Please help
|
|
|
|
|
Hi
It is not possible to pass array to Stored Procedure but instead of that pass comma-separated values. (eg. 1,2,4,5).
Write a separate function to read & return value as '1','2','3','5'
For example Pass value as '1,2,3,4,5' and function should return as '1','2','3','5'.

This works in SQL Server but not sure in MS Acceess
Select top 10 * from TALE_NAME
where ID not in
(Select top 20 ID from TALE_NAME order by ID )
order by ID
another method in MS SQL Server 2005:
With ctp as
(
Select row_number() over (order by ID) a, * from TABLE_NAME
)
Select * from ctp
where a between 21 and 30
order by a
|
|
|
|
|
well its so simple.
Do one thing first add a Field which is autonumber.
then u'll have hundered ids in tht column then use its value as follows.
select * from TableName where id between 20 and 30;
hope it works.
|
|
|
|
|
Ok. But could you please tell me to create the dynamic column from within the query itself only. And it will not be permanently created in the table. The query should be in SQL Server 2000. Thank you.
