PPL aren't you willing to help me here?

Well, this is a forum for software developers to find people to help test their software, or to co-develop with them, not for help on linux problems, so posting in a more appropriate forum would be better (and with a more clearly written question - I don't have a clue what you're asking!)

Tipically I use TortoiseCVS when I use cvs in Windows. It has the option of using an RSH/SSH key to authenticate me instead of a password.
I'm trying to get cvs to work on the command line with my private key instead of a password so I can set up a build proccess with little human interaction. I've found the CVS_RSH environment variable and set that to my SSH aplication (TortoisePlink.exe), but I can't seem to be able to pass parameters to it (my private key).
Maybe I should be using a different cvs clien instead of the Tortoise package??
Thanks.

Guys I'm tired of the casino games you pick up at wal-mart... So I'm writing something better. I'm looking for ideas on ways to organize the AI. My experience with AI in college was pretty much limited to the Chess game we programmed. Computer suggests a move and then plays out an artificial game for about 4 moves ahead, repeats this for 3 or 4 possible moves, picks the best choice, and executes. Its a brute method and I'm wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions or could point me to some references.

I don't think the chess analogy will work with Texas Holdem'. There is to much luck involved.
I think I would develop a point scheme:
1) What are the odds that I currently have the best hand?
2) What are the odds that I could make it better?
3) How does the known betting history of my 'in' opponents effect these odds?
4) What is my position in the bettting sequence?
5) How much money do I have in relation to my 'in' opponents?
I would give points to these factors and decide to bet accordingly. I would then adjust the point system until I have achieved an adequate winning ratio. You can even adjust points to emulate different playing styles (beginner, aggresive, conservative, etc.).
Thats just off the top of my head, of course.

Hi,
Im playing around with a little grid/repeater for windows forms
http://www.compona.com/repeateralpha1.zip[^]
here is a short list of current features:
PanelRows , rows that behave like panels , where you can place controls
TableRows , like standard grid rows
TabRows , TabStrip container for child rows , each childrowtype will be placed in a separate tab
ShowParentRows , feature to force parent rows to be visible for the first visible row
this makes it possible to always see what data a row belongs to
no editing , selections , sorting or grouping is in place yet.
im currently working on xp and o2003 theme support.
need testers and feedback.
is it a good idea to be able to present data as the panelrows?
what features other than those listed would be good?
write to me at compona [at] gmail.com

Pls anybody can evaluate
1) Does testing by third party will uncover all the errors in the program
2) Does Regression testing helps in removing the undetected errors
3) Does Automated tools are the ideal choice in the place of manual testing.
4)Pls any can eplain with the flowchart how defect is tracked and cleared.

hi..
depends upon ur application..
what kind of it is and what kind of testing is required for it...
I mean either u want to know how much users it can support at time(stress)
how much secure application is and what kind of checks need to be tested.
If u let me know these things than perhaps i would be able to talk...

1) Does testing by third party will uncover all the errors in the program
No. Nothing uncovers all the errors in the program. If you were to rephrase the question to 'is testing by third party more effective?' then the answer is: 'only if your in-house testing skills are lower than that of the third party'. So look at your skill sets and those of the third party.
2) Does Regression testing helps in removing the undetected errors
I think you want to know if regression testing will help find defects that were missed in system testing. The answer is 'somewhat'. The prime focus of regression testing is to have an economic way to re-assure that the current release didn't break bits in areas other than where you made changes. Regression tests tend to be test cases that had been run in the original system testing. So if regression test cases find bugs it means your maintenance changes had a side effect that you were not aware of. Is this an error that was undetected in system testing? A matter of argument but besides the point.
3) Does Automated tools are the ideal choice in the place of manual testing?
No. Automated tools have their place but they are no replacement of good manual testing. Too many people try to do with manual testing stuff that is better done with automated testing. But inversely there is much that is not well testable in an automated fashion. Specifically in system testing manual testing is more and more effective. This is a long topic so I'll just make a few assertions:
- manual testing discovers more bugs than automated because manual testers are more flexible
- building a robust automated test case takes about 10 times the effort required to do the test case manually - so it is only worth where you would run the test more than 10 times
- building robust automated test cases is a Software Development task. You need to provide the skills, processes and infrastructure to support it. Otherwise you are wasting your money.

Hi I have written a DbfReader and a DbfWriter class to read and write DBASE III IV and IV files using the binary structure of the files. The idea is to be able to deal with DBASE files without the help of any kind of dbms interaction (as you would deal with a CSV file or other delimited file).
I currently have a working version for DBASE III IV and IV.
I would like to extend this to the other versions of DBASE / Foxpro, including the (formerly) borland flavor.
If anyone is interested in helping with this project, or just using or seeing what I've done the VS.NET project and a test app are available at:
http://softwarebybrian.com/html/dbffiles_net.html
You can email me from that site if you want and I'll respond.
Thanks

Hi folks, I'm an indie programmer, and started a C# project about a year ago. It's a business app. Two old clients (they had my Windows 3.1 version, in Foxpro!) have bought the program, and very competent friends are ready to help market it in its modern form.
If you are good and impressively fast, I would be glad to make a profit-sharing agreement with you. That option is likely to amount to good pay, and a future position that you can do from anywhere. (Yippee!) However, the pay will come in with sales, so it'll take awhile. Alternately, I can pay a fixed amount upon completion -- but only around $5,000. I think we can complete the project in two months.
Cheers,

i don't know how i test the source code of the examples that i downloaded from here
the codes are C++
im use C++ builder and TurboC++ but i can't compile
somebody can help me?
thx.

The majority of the C++ code here is Visual Studio specific (or Visual C++ to be more specific) so probably won't be compatible with C++ builder or Turbo C++

..to beat the c**p out of my Deluxe Paint clone (especially if you've got experience of working with DPaint - I want to know if I'm getting the look&feel about right!)
It's currently in very early stages, doesn't do a good deal of what DPaint did, but does enough to start painting (and most of the basic drawing tools work)
It's got no ability to load/save images either (but hey, that's what Alt+PrntScrn are there for!!)
Anyway click here[^] to have a look, and if you spot any bugs, or just want to make any comments, there's bug reporting stuff, and forums on it's sourceforge project page (you'll see a link at the top)
Thanks peeps!

Good start to an application you got going there, only suggestion ive got at the mo is to rewrite the fill tool, because it seems to be a little slow. Are you using the Bitmap SetPixel/GetPixel functions?
|
|
|
|
|
I use GetPixel to read, but GDI+'s DrawLine to do the painting (unless it's a single pixel) - I know it's far from optimal, but it works, and doesn't make my brain hurt the way the other flood fill algorithms here on CP do. I'll probably optimise it a bit at some point, but my main priority is getting everything working
have a look at my code[^] - the fill function is about 2/3rds of the way down

I didnt mean to sound like an expert
I was just wondering, because I had read SetPixel/GetPixel are slow, but had never used them before, so hadn't tested it.

I saw this article on cnn: Free voice mail helps the homeless. I thought it might be cool to try and make a similiar such system which would instead work off one phone line, use a standard 56k modem etc.
Here is what i was thinking:
just like a post office has post office boxes, have a voice mail system where you can give the person a mail box number (such as 455 for instance), the soup kitchen/church/shelter has a phone line hooked up to a pc which takes the call on, then prompts the person at the other end of the line for a box number. The persons own greeting is then played and the caller can leave a message.
To retrieve a message the owner of the box calls in, press # or * or something and types in their box number, then their pin number and can change the greeting, retrieve messages etc. It wouldnt have to be too complex, more likely the more simplistic the better.
To create new accounts the operator could just do it via a webpage, or have an app which connects to the voice mail server via tcp.
I'd prefer to do something like this in C# as it is my language of choice.
So what am i after? Just people who can help - who know how to analyse sound (to work out the key presses) and such. It would have to be free, of course - maybe even open source.
If you have any ideas or feedback, or would like to help - email me @ dev@dvmesh.com
i have aim/msn/icq too if you want the details just email me.

Hey All,
I need to get some volunteers from the US and Canada so that I can test some of our SMS systems' capabilities. So far I've tested items such as rintone delivery and WAP Push messages in Ireland, UK, Germany (Thanks Ulla), and South Africa (Thanks Paul).
The testing itself will involve me sending you some some monophopnic ringtones through our SMS systems and sending some WAP Push messages... obviously this does not cost you anything.
If you are interested just drop me an email (clikc the little [Email] link at the bottom of this post (beside Reply)) and I'll get back to you asap with the details of what information I need from you (e.g. mobile number, phone make/model, mobile provider etc)
Thanks in advance lads.

I am working on a database build tool to turn a database into DDL scripts that are then run as part of an installer application. The work in progress is on GotDotNet.
The design allows for plug-in data schema providors to work on different database platforms but I only have Sybase and SQL Server to code/test on - can anyone out there help me with the other main players (Oracle for instance)
Thanks in advance,
Duncan
