Add this to your config file on the server side.
<serverProviders>
<formatter ref="binary" typeFilterLevel="Full" />
<formatter ref="soap" typeFilterLevel="Full" />
</serverProviders>
Add the line according to the formatter you are using.

Of course, that is the solution, but no the explanation. You can find explanations in Ingo Rammer[^]

have written an application that employs excel to produce a report.
This works fine when used on a system with Excel XP or Excel 2003 installed but dies when run on a system with an earlier version installed.
This is a bit of a problem as I cannot guarantee that Excel 2000 will NOT be installed on systems running this application.
Does anyone know of an alternative that I could employ for those systems where Excel 2000 is installed?
Many thanks,
Chris

This is the strangest bug I have ever seen and can be reproduced at will.
Put a RichTextBox on a form and type \\\ it will underline it and turn it blue.
My guess is that it thinks its a link and is trying to create a hyperlink.
Anyone else seen this?

That's the start of a link to a network path, so it's not a bug.
There is one bug I've found though that's easily reproducible:
Enable URL detection in a RichTextBox. Enter a url in the textbox. If you move your cursor over the empty area of the RTB, you'll notice the cursor is the standard arrow cursor (all is well). Now, change the text in the RTB to some non-URL plain text in one call to .Text = .... Move your cursor over the empty area of the RTB and you'll notice the cursor is now the URL cursor (usually the hand cursor), which is a bug. To make it worse, click in the empty area and it will raise the .LinkClicked event, despite there being no link to click on.
The graveyards are filled with indispensible men.

I am looking for a web-like drop-down text field for a Compact Framework application. It would need to drop-down displaying past entries and allow new text entries as well. Much like you get with most of the Search fields on the web. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks

this exception is thrown by Font.Initialize() during creation of an instance of ListView on my form _deep_ in my remoting client component. this exception occurs __ONLY__ if the component's CCW is hosted by third-party scripting engine based on VBScript (SmartScript for PDM SmarTeam, if you know) others (IE6, VBA Office XP) and VB 6.0 applications have no problems with it. interfaces are OLE Automation compatible and operate business-objects only.
the question is: what in architecture of non .NET application hosting CCW (or in interop. declarations, if it is possible) could cause a problem with resource allocation?

.NET is mainly designed for Windows and could be assumed to
work with only little endian binary files.
However, what is the real behavior?
BinaryReader : Is this designed to read system/hardware supported
endian of will always read little endian no matter the system?
BinaryWriter: Is this designed to always write little endian binary or
it depends on the system?
I wish to know in order to extend these classes.
BTW, anyone got extends to support big endian binary files?
Best regards,
Paul.
Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.

I know somewhere in the code the dialog is told which icon to load and display. Does anyone know where that code is? How can I supply my own custom icon to display on my dialogs?
|
|
|
|
|
You could always create your own dialog forms by subclassing System.Windows.Forms.Form , including your own icon on it, then showing an instance of it using its ShowDialog() method.

Let me make sure I understand the question before I say something stupid. You have created a custom dialog and you want to change the icon for that dialog. Correct?
If so, then you should be able to simply change the Icon property of the dialog. It should simply be a matter of mapping to the Icon file that you would like to use. For simplicity, you could add the Icon to your project, then you won't have to worry about validating whether the file exists or not. It will be a part of your solution.
Is this what you meant?

I thought I did that. I only have one icon in my project and I can't see where the code is loading it into the dialog. It MUST BE somewhere. There's that stupid default icon with the three cubes. That's no longer visible. Now I have a "dialog" icon which must be the default icon if the three cubes are not available. I know it can be done because in one of our other appilications the custom icon is showing. Maybe I'll just look at that one. I was hoping there was an easier answer.

Okay. I just ran a test of this and I have found two specific ways of doing this (although I am sure there are more out there). I created a project and added two different looking icons. The first I went into the form's properties and changed the icon there. The mis-leading part is that even though your icons are loaded as "part" of your project/solution, you will still have to reference them by path and filename. So, I set one of them at design time to make sure that worked. It did.
Once this was successful, I went into the Form1_Load procedure and created an object of type System.Drawing.Icon. This has 6 different constructors, one of which accepts a path/filename. I created that and passed it "..\Icon2.ico" as the path/filename (.. because the root for execution is bin and I had the file in the main project directory). I then simply set the Me.Icon property to the Icon object I had just created. All tests were successful.
Does this make sense?

Hi,
I have two forms: the principal and what will be called. The first possesses a button and the second anything it contains. The code of the button is like this simple:
Form2 f = new Form2 ();
f.Show ();
PROBLEM:
Making an analysis of the instances created during the processes I arrived in a subject that, for me, it is stranger:
Before the form2 call
----------------------
Instances of the class Icon: 2 (I imagine that is one of the main form and one of the application)
After the form2 call
---------------------
Instances of the class Icon: 3 (+1, that´s OK)
After the form2 closing
------------------------
Instances of the class Icon: 3 (that is a leak or am I being paranoid?)
Obs.: The fact of the form to be not modal, it doesn't alter the values.
Hugs,

Can anyone help me with this one, I'm all out of ideas
I have a custom Component deriving from Component. This component also implements the IListSource interface.
The most important method I have to implement for this is GetList();
In the GetList method I need to obtain the parents type where my component is placed on. In this case a standard form derived from System.Windows.Forms.Form.
I tried to do the following:
IDesignerHost host = Site.Container as System.ComponentModel.Design.IDesignerHost;
With the host I have now, I can get the RootComponent, BUT, and now comes the problem, the RootComponent is at that time the baseclass of the actual parent object. So I get System.Windows.Forms.Form instead of my derived parent class' type.
I've discovered that this is because the designerhost is at that moment still in the loading state. The problem is that the GetList() is called before the loading state finishes and by the time the host is fully loaded, it it already too late, GetList isn't called again.
Can anyone help me with this ?
I'll be worshipping you until the end of my days
