Hi all
I have developed a com interop application in C#, its output is .dll.
It is working fine in the workstation (windows XP)
Now I wand manually deploy the same DLL in windows 2003 server, the server already has .net Framework
Can any one tell me how to deplay the com interop DLL?
More over I am integrating the C# DLL with a VC++ (Version 6) Client, the client will read the CLSID from the registry and create the instance of the .net component.In this case can any one guide me that how to deploy the interop component?
Thanks

Hi,
I know i have set this up wrong and am looking for a way to correct it.
I have a main form which contains all the functions/methods for my application. I am now however using pop up forms which change the contents of variables on the main form. I can pass variables betweem the forms using Property Get and Set.
I was wondering can i access methods from the main form in the pop up forms? I keep getting a "Reference to a non shared member requires an object reference" exception when i try and call them even though they are public
Any help much appreciated

Well, overlooking that design flaw....

It isn't the fact that it is public that is stopping you. It is the fact that the property can return different values for different instances of the form (or any class for that matter). So, it need to know which instance - even if there is only one instance in the application.
If you need a property to get/set the same value regardless of which particular instance of a class you are using then you need to declare it as static (or Shared in VB.NET)

Unfortunately, VS.NET 2002[^] and VS.NET 2003[^] both require Windows 2000 or later. The resulting executables can be run on Windows 98 and ME, however.

Hello.
I want to use the ColourButton for the .net compact framework from Jon Nethercott
(http://www.codeproject.com/cs/miscctrl/PocketPCColourBtn.asp). The button itself works fine, but how can I add it to the toolbox? I click with the right mouse button on the toolbox, then “add element”. The Element “Colour Button” is added, but it’s disabled. What can I do?
Thanks very much

I created a setup project for my comapny using .NET Setup and Deployment project. I want to change the registry enviroment variables for the current user, which I easily add in their registry editor. When I install the setup in fresh computer, its instals ok and shows the updated environment variables (Right click on my computer -> properties -> Advanced -> Environment variables) but they did not work. If i open the dos window (cmd.exe), and run "set", its did not display the updated environment. Even reboot didn't fix it. I have to manully edit those value in order to take effect, which is not acceptable at user point.
It seems like very basic feature to me, when you deploy the application, you want to change the environemnt variables. Is this a knows bug or I am missing something.
Please help me..

Given a required width is there any way to find the ideal height of a label? (IE so all the text is displayed)
MOO!!

Label in .net are auto resizable by default . It will sized automaticlly according to string whiech you are going to assign it .
You don't care about it

Thanks for your reply satya. If tried setting autosize to true for a label but it just autosizes the width, leaving the height at one character. I wanted to autosize the height. Ie fix the width and make the height adjust for multiple lines with the words wrapping.
I did find a way of doing it eventually I'll post it when I've had a look at my development PC.
Unless I'm missing something and you can use autosize while fixing the width.....

If you want to use multilpe lines , You can use Height property of label but when you write text in that it will again show one line . Now if you want to show the text in whole label . First go into font properites of label and set size according to your choice .

In MFC there are PropertySheets e.g. to display possible app options. In C# and .NET are there good examples for it ?

I have two assemblies, X and Y.
Y defines a class X.Foo
X references Y.
In X I have the following:
System.Type t = System.Type.GetType("Y.Foo");
This fails.
If instead I write:
System.Type t = System.Type.GetType("Y.Foo,Y");
it works.
I was expecting that the explicit assembly specifier should not be required given that I am referencing the assembly allready.
Can somebody explain the subtleties of GetType in this situation?
cheers,

In a DataGrid with a data source of DataTable,
What's the difference between a column_changed event and a column_changing?
When editing the data table during runtime, it first enters the column_changing method, then the column_changed one.
I want to invalidate the user's editing in a column according to a certain criterion.
Thanks!~
Here is Rebecca.

changed is in the past tense
changing is in the present continuous tense
Therefore:
* The ..._changing event fires as the change is taking place, giving you a chance to cancel the change or other action you need to complete before the change is completed.
* The ..._changed event fires after the chance has been made, giving you a chance to perform actions that rely on the change having successfully completed.

I am looking for a combined tree and grid control.
It should display nodes in a hierarchy (showPlusMinus and showRootLines) like a tree view. Mostly, it should look like a treeview.
It should also display columns with column headers, though, like a grid. The master/child datagrid doesn't really do a good job for this.
I've tried starting with grid, and adding my own PlusMinux boxes and RootLines, and I've tried starting with a treeview, and breaking up each line into columns with column headers. Either way, it's going to be a ton of work so that the custom control has good support for both grid stuff and tree stuff.
I realize that I can purchase for $$$ money several different grids that do trees very well, but I'm cheap. I'm surprised that no-one has published source code to a free version that I can use.
Does anyone have something like this they'd like to share?
Thanks,
Norman R.

Hi,
I've been working on an async download class. It's basiclly complete but I need to raise some events from a thread started with BeginInvoke. When I raise the event it works fine but if I want to modify the user interface I understand that it needs to be running on the UI thread (I checked the InvokeRequired property and it is true). What I'm trying to work out is how I can automatically run the events on the thread the class was created in. Any help would be appreciated!
On a side-note I looked at the .net 2.0 implementation of an async download (in the WebClient class) but it uses alot of new classes (like AsyncOperation) which I cant use in 1.1.
Dan
EDIT: Oh and heres the class incase anyone wants to take a look at it.

You need to Invoke again on the thread the gui runs from.
when the event fires and you receive it on your form instead of updating your control directly you would need to do it through another delegate.
public delegate void UpdateControlHandler(string text);
private void UpdateControl(string text)
{
this.mycontrol.Text = text;
}
private void GotMyEvent(object sender,MyEventArgs e)
{
if(this.InvokeRequired)
{
object [] args = new object[1];
args[0] = e.text;
this.Invoke(new UpdateControlHandler(this.UpdateControl),args);
}
else
{
this.UpdateControl(e.text);
}
}
hope this helps
it works for me

Although this does work its not really what I would like.. I'm wondering if theres a way todo this so its automatically on the UI thread and whoever is using the class doesnt have to use Invoke..? Is this even possible? :P

I have a nested loop in which I am looking at username and password if they click more than 3x's I lock them out... However, my loop won't work... Here is the code
While DR.Read()
'If i <= 3 0 Then
If User = DR("DTLoginID").ToString() And Pwd = DR("DTPassword").ToString() Then
Response.Redirect("Broadcast.aspx")
ElseIf User = DR("DTLoginID").ToString() And Pwd <> DR("DTPassword").ToString() Then
MsgBox.alert("The Username and/or Password does not exist; Please Try Again")
Me.txtUser.Enabled = True
' i = i + 1
ElseIf User <> DR("DTLoginID").ToString() And Pwd <> DR("DTPassword").ToString() Then
MsgBox.alert("The Username and/or Password does not exist; Please Try Again")
Me.txtUser.Enabled = True
' i = i + 1
End If
'ElseIf i > 3 Then
'MsgBox.alert("No User Exist")
'Response.Redirect("Broadcast.aspx")
' End If
End While
It will go straight to the (marked out items) elseif i > 3 and do the redirect.... any suggestions..
