Can we create such applications using C#.net? Do we have to use direct x or XNA for such things or it could be done without using it.
Please let me know....
Thanks in advance

Yes.

Since there is not a lot I can tell from a bunch of box covers it is hard to say. But Direct X and XNA do not exlclude C#. In fact you must have Visual C# Express Edition installed before you can install XNA.

well they are like a drag n drop games, quiz and lot many games for kids to make dem learn through games...so you can imagine, coulour identification, drag n drop, planets moving around and stuf..
I just want to knw if we could create such simple games with C# then i wont think of using XNA or anything. i would just concentrate on C# only..
BUt if its compulsory to use them then i dont have any other choice..
I want to create a web based application in 5 months time. So i am learning C#.net and asp.net...should i also start wid XNA or ?
Thanks for your reply...

So, they teach stuff like spelling ?
DirectX will always do better graphics than straight code, C++ or C#. But, for simple 2D games, you won't *need* DX

Do you have any clue if there is any link where its discussed how to create simple games without using Direct X n all. as in google i get result which include direct X...which i think could be tedious for beginner.
But ill try .

I did a series of three articles on a basic game. I don't think everything I did was exactly best practice, but it's a good starting point, just search for my articles.

When I compile my C# document and execute it (by double-clicking it in the window), it makes a little black box come up (I think it's the System Console). I am using Windows.Forms, and I don't want the black box to be be there. Is there a way to make this disappear? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Change the project properties. Possibly in the build tab (Sorry, I don't have VS in front of me at the moment to verify) They are probably set to Console Application at the moment.

Sorry, I'm not using Visual C#. It won't install on my computer. Maybe I need an internet connection? (I have a Mac and a PC - I program on the pc - the mac has the internet, and the pc doesn't)

I am looking to take a program and compile it for a mac. The code is entirely C# coded in visual c#. Is there ea compiler that someone can recommend that maybe makes dmg files?

Mono probably won't work with the code as is unless it's a CLI/web app. Rather than using WINE to try and support winforms Mono is instead using GTK.net. GTK.net is usable in MSVS, but unless crossplatform was goal from the start is unlikely to've been used.

Of course, I've no idea what his app. is but my idea is that he would recode it in Mono and then port.

Mono is the only port of C# that exists. I don't think it has a GUI library. I doubt you can do this.

Hello again,
I searched CP for "oscilloscope" and found several articles; I suggest you have a look at this one[^] first.

Hi ,
In one of the modules of my application I am using the implicit Transactionscope object for insert /updating Data to a SQL Database ..
This are the code lines wherein I define the scope .
using (TransactionScope addEditscope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.RequiresNew, new TimeSpan(0, 5,0)))
If everything works fine I call the complete method for Commiting the transaction else I throw an exception whereby the Transaction gets rolled back & also since the Transaction scope is completed , The transactionscope object gets Disposed. (I have checked it & there is no instance of any Transactions shown) ...
I also have a Linked Server to an Access Database for populating a Dropdown list .
The above two functinalities are handled in two different methods ...
But unfortunately when I try to populate the Dropdownlist I get the following error :
Cannot start a transaction for OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "ExternPopup".
I am nowhere using Transaction while Fetching data for the dropdownlist ...
The movement I remove the above Transactional code Everything works fine ...
Please help

That's an interesting issue you bring up. TransactionScope does a lot behind the scenes to manage transactions and whatever it sets up the first time it's used is probably going to stick around since you're on the same connection. You could try opening up another connection to the same database and trying to get your list. If that doesn't work, try rearranging the items in the connection string (IIRC ADO uses the connection string to handle pooling and it could be as simple as rearranging the string to open up a distinct connection instead of getting the existing one from the pool).
But, for a "non-kludgey" solution, maybe you could write a stored procedure that will contact your linked server to pull the data. If you're already doing this, I believe there may be some settings you have to put on the link to make it capable of participating in transactions. I've had a problem before with linked servers where my stored procedure would fail in the application when it called the linked server but worked just fine in query analyzer. The solution I found was to use ODBC.

Hi Dustin ,
Thanks a lot ...
I created a new connection to the same database & set Enlist=false in the connectionstring .
I could fetch the data without any problem ..

When I select an item in the list view I'm using the SelectedIndexChanged procedure to run some code. At the end of the code I would like the cursor to be be put in TextBox TB1. When I use TB1.Focus() the system still keeps the items in the ListView Selected to have the focus. If through the code I change the selecteditem everything works. The problem is when the user clicks the item.
Thanks for everyones assistance.

There is a webserver "windows server 2003" on local network. It has VS2005 with SP1 and latest updates for win server 2003.
This server also has IIS.
The webservices that are created in .net 2.0 are sitting in this server (virtual directory).
Using a client workstation (development machine), I can pipng the ip address of the webserver.
The problem is when trying to add webreference to these webservices in web server. i.e. http://webserverName/CodeServicces/intest.asmx
The client gives an error as follows:
The proxy settings on this computer are not configured correctly for web discovery.
Server Error in '/' Application.

Check the spelling of the URL. Both the URLs look like they are misspelled. If it's misspelled on the server, you have to use the same spelling when accessing it.
