I'd imagine a webservice will be fast enough that no-one will spot any discernable lag. No, I don't give out my MSN, but feel free to ask more questions here if you need to.

hi all,
greetings.I'm using a check box in my application.when checked two text boxes should be visible and the entered details in that text boxes should get saved in database.can anyone give me the source for this.
Babu

No, we can't. The first part is trivial ( setting the Visible property on your text boxes ) and the second is impossible ( giving you code to 'save in database' without any further information regarding the database in question.
Have you tried google ? Sample database code is not in short supply online, or even on this site.

Hi,
I have problem with combobox.
I set AutoCompleteMode to Suggest, AutoCompleteSource to ListItems and DropDownStyle to Simple.
If I type a text that opens the AutoComplete list I am not able to accept my selection via the Return key. In that case the text of the text field is deleted. The problem does not occur if DropDownStyle is set to DropDown.
What can I do?
Please help!
Thanks

I have created a base form for my application in VS 2005. Next I have created a new form which will inherit the base form. I can see all the controls from the base form but I cannot add to anything that is on the base form (like to a tab control). All the controls have little locks over them and cannot be unlocked from the right mouse button menu.
Anyone had this problem or know the solution to my problem please help me.
New suggestions are also welcome.

The reason for this behaviour is the visibility modifier for the controls in your base class.
You just put the controls onto your base form without changing their visibility from private (standard) to protected .
Thus derived classes cannot see the instance variables of your base form and the designer can't add any controls to your TabPage , for example.

But not urgent enough to do anything with the replies you've recieved all the other times you have asked this same question ? Perhaps you can explain why it is that you're still asking, although you're apparently incapable of doing anything with the answers you've already given. Are you hoping the answer will change ?

Dear,
-I want to check the version of file then allow to download a updated-file automatically
-I had writen a function that allows to retrieve File information using FileInfo and FileVersionInfo
-It runs well if the source file 's in my local, but it was not functionly if the source file 's in the server.
Ex: http://www.misplacedcomedygroup.com/rss.xml
-And it also throws this exception: "URI formats are not supported."
Here is my function:
//function get version
public static string GetFileVersion(string srcFile){
string fileVersion;
try {
FileVersionInfo info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(srcFile);
fileVersion = info.FileVersion;
}
catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
throw (e);
}
}
//function get last modify time
public static string GetFileLastAccessTime(string srcFile) {
string lastAccessTime;
try {
FileInfo file = new FileInfo(srcFile);
lastAccessTime = file.LastAccessTime.ToString();
}
catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
throw (e);
}
}
Thanks regards,
Germanrose

Hey,
Just wondering if you still need this, basically you will have to create a webservice/php script to return the information. It should work then.

I can't seem to get my components to "automagically" turn up in the Toolbox. Once I put them there manually they are usually updated. Sometimes I'm forced to do a complete rebuild of the several projects within a solution, ensuring that before I do that I delete all the bin and obj directories. But that's a general problem, that's not related to specifically to Components, except that I have to add them all back into the Toolbox.
I seem to recall reading of a programmatic way to get things into the Toolbox, rather than the declarative method. the code that follows is one of the classes in question.
namespace ContextAnalyser.Technical
{
public partial class catDesignServices
{
[ToolboxItem(true)]
[DesignTimeVisible(true)]
[ToolboxBitmap(typeof(SplitContainer))]
[Description("Design Time Service - Exclude Properties and Events")]
[DisplayName("Property/Event Exclusions")]
public partial class catExcluder : Component
{
private catMemberSelector removeProperties;
[Editor(typeof(catDesignServices.catListEditorInitiate), typeof(UITypeEditor))]
[DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)]
[DesignOnly(true)]
[Description("Items to be excluded from Properties Grid")]
[DisplayName("Excluded Properties")]
[Category("Design")]
[Browsable(true)]
public catMemberSelector RemoveProperties { get { return this.removeProperties; } }

use import utility in Access (file->Get external data->Import) and follow the steps.
u can also use sql server import utility

Load excel to a dataset then fill this dataset to DB.
a sample code snippet from net:
Dim ConnectionString As String <br />
<br />
ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _ <br />
"Data Source=e:\My Documents\Book20.xls;Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=NO""" <br />
<br />
<br />
Dim ExcelConnection As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(ConnectionString) <br />
ExcelConnection.Open() <br />
<br />
<br />
Dim da As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("Select * from [Sheet8$]", ExcelConnection) <br />
Dim ds As New DataSet("Workbooks") <br />
<br />
<br />
da.Fill(ds, "Sheet8")

If I create a nested class based on Form or UserControl (see code outline at end of note) then VSE 2005 C# does not present a design surface with which I can work.
Same issue with Component based classes, although that's less of a problem as they tend to be less susceptible to change. Haven't tried DataSets but I assume they are the same. And there seems to be no way to nest Resource and Settings classes either. The rule seems to be that classes developed with designers cannot be nested.
Q1 What am I doing wrong (apart from daring to use nested partial classes)?
Q2 Is there a workaround?
Q3 Is it a VSE constraint, that's not manifested by other versions of 2005 VS C#.
Q4 If this is a common constraint, does that imply I could not create nested classes using the Class Designer provided in the Standard and Professional editions of VS 2005 C#.
myUserControl.cs
namespace myNamespace {
partial myOuterClass{
partial public class myUserControl : UserControl {
public myUserControl{
InitializeComponents()
}
}
}
}
myUserControl.Designer.cs
namespace myNamespace {
partial myOuterClass {
partial class myUserControl {
public myUserControl {
/// <summary>
/// Required designer variable.
/// </summary>
private System.ComponentModel.IContainer components = null;
.
.
.
private LastGadgetType lastGadget;
}
}
}
}

1 - your control needs to be the first class in the file in order to show in the design view
2 - See 1
3 - Not that I know of
4 - yes, there is a common constraint there in how you organise classes if the deigner is to work.

Thanks Christian, your answers are as I expected, but not what I wanted to hear.
What's the point of including nesting and partial classes if the tools don't support them. Are there any other C# IDE's that do support partial nested classes -don't bothering answering that I can google too.
Are you aware of any plans by MS to support partial nested classes etc in their designers in future versions of VS. I guess I could always write my own, I'm not planning on doing anything this evening

It's got nothing to do with it. Two vanilla classes will kill the designer, if your control is not the first one.
pjd1001 wrote: don't bothering answering that I can google too.
*grin* I don't need to. I doubt any other IDE is going to be better than the MS one.

No, I have no idea, and I doubt it's a priority.

got another hammer out and did some panel beating - I can live with the result.
FYI I d'ld the ICSharp Open Source C# IDE, same problem. It's got a "prettier" editor, no data designer as far as I could make out. I does have better "out of the box" integration with "help system" and some documentation features, than I haven't seen in VS. And you get the source. Would I use it for life critical stuff, no, but nor would I use VS.

Can C# modify the OS (windows) item (eg.Date and Time) setting in the control panel?
How?
Thanks!
