You want to know how to add a checkbox to your UI, or modify the registry?

I am developing MFC application using OpenCV ( VC 6.0).
I would like to be able to see the progress / debug messages from standard printf function used by OpenCV.
I found this MS article
"
How to spawn console processes with redirected standard handles
This article was previously published under Q190351"
Besides beeing somewhat complicated I am wondering if anybody actually used this MS approach with success.
Or better yet - in KISS tradition - is there a simpler way to accomplish this?
Thanks for reading.
Cheers

Yes, coupled with this one.

Thanks,
it still looks like major surgery to me, but I'll give it a try.

Maybe its a bit stupid solution but I usually put this to the beginning of my main in gui programs when I want printf() for stupid debugging:
AllocConsole();<br />
freopen("CONIN$", "r", stdin);<br />
freopen("CONOUT$", "w", stdout);<br />
freopen("CONOUT$", "w", stdout);<br />
Note that this probably works only on windows, take a look at the msdn description of the CreateFile() if you want to know why the "CONIN$" and "CONOUT$" are working.

It means that you're asking a C# question on a C++ forum.

How can I get the follwoings:
Application name ( from version info) -
Application version ( from version info) -
OS Name -
OS Version -
Servive Pack version -
Processor Version -
|
|
|
|
|
You can get the OS name, version and service pack info with the GetVersionEx[^] function.
The GetSystemInfo[^] function will give you details about the processor.

Thanks,
But there is nothing to get OS service pack. How can I get it?
|
|
|
|

The GetVersionEx function returns the service pack info in the szCSDVersion member of the OSVERSIONINFO struct.
If you use OSVERSIONINFOEX, there's members wServicePackMajor and wServicePackMinor to have it as numbers rather than text.

Under what circumstances will this function not work?
I mean using it to change the width of the window.
I find it kinda weird that this function sometimes works but sometimes not.
Anyone could help?
Many thx!

// I find it kinda weird that this function sometimes(yes) works but sometimes(no) not.
Probably it could be calculated as following :
needs_to_work = sometimes(yes) - sometimes(no);
They sought it with thimbles, they sought it with care;
They pursued it with forks and hope;
They threatened its life with a railway-share;
They charmed it with smiles and soap.

If the window is created on a class that doesn't have the CS_HREDRAW and CS_VREDRAW styles, you've also to invalidate the window, since it is not done automatically.
Use SetWindowPos to have more control on the possible options.

It's possible your target windows prevents resizing or changes the behaviour.
For example if it answers to the WM_GETMINMAXINFO message like so:
case WM_GETMINMAXINFO:
((MINMAXINFO*)lParam)->ptMinTrackSize.x = 200;
((MINMAXINFO*)lParam)->ptMinTrackSize.y = 150;
break;
The window will not allow itself to be resized to anything smaller than 200x150 pixels.

And in those instances where it does not, are you calling GetLastError() to find out why?
