I guess she faces this problem in a particular application. Probably It should be her mistake. But not sure

I suppose that this error isn't generated by your application, it's an error from windows loader, the whole executable is damaged. If you can post this file somewhere, maybe I can help.
PS Check your linker options, the problem suppose to be here.

How can I have always displayed selection of an item?
When user clicks in field (inside list control), where there isn't any item, selection is disapearing - how can I prevent this?
In control properties I have "show selection always" set as TRUE.

Map LVN_ITEMCHANGING Notification.
And try this
void CMyDlg::OnItemchangingList1(NMHDR* pNMHDR, LRESULT* pResult)
{
NM_LISTVIEW* pNMListView = (NM_LISTVIEW*)pNMHDR;
CPoint pos(GetMessagePos());
m_list.ScreenToClient( &pos );
UINT uFlags = 0;
m_list.HitTest( pos, &uFlags );
*pResult = ( uFlags & LVHT_ONITEMLABEL ) ? FALSE : TRUE;
}

I suppose that DirectX engine, for performance reasons, uses a specific mode of transferring images to video controller. I think the data are put directly to video buffer, at a point in which the Windows system does not have access. That’s why Windows cannot combine DirectX image with your frame to apply transparency effect. The DirectX frame can be only clipped, but cannot be read.
In my tests, even Print Screen button does not include the image which belongs to a DirectX frame. (I do not now about other environments; I suppose that if Print Screen works there, then the transparency will work too).
I think there is no problem in your application. It is a way in which DirectX and Windows interact.

Any clues to show the "Hand cursor" only in a selected list item? There are 7 list items. In that one list item would be like a hyperlink. if it is done in mouseover method, then the "Hand cursor" should be applied to only one list item in a row.
need to restrict "mouse over" and "onClick" methods.
Thanks

Read this article^
Hint:
Make use of SetCursor() appropriately a changeCursor would set the cursor back to the default cursor.

Basically i need to include left to right, right to left, top to bottom and bottom to top transition effects
CLSIDs for left to right transitions are CLSID_DxtJpeg and CLSID_Slide.
But I couldnt find the header file need to be included for CLSID_Slide.
