you could always print out the source code onto paper, take it into the garden and set fire to it. It won't take long to get into the cloud!

Hi,
Have a small problem. I have two generic lists that are bound to two separate Listboxes
Private sourceList AS New List(Of Person)
Private targetList As New List(Of Person)
Private p As New Person("Johnny","Chicago")
sourceList.Add(p)
lstSourcebox.DataSource = sourceList
lstSourcebox.DisplayMember = "Name"
lstTargetbox.DataSource = targetList
lstTargetbox.DisplayMember = "Name
So when I try to drag and drop a Person object the data is placed in the targetList but the lstTargetbox doesnt show any info. Is there someway that i have to refresh it or something.
Thanks

Well, first of all let me know if Name property is declared public inside the Person Class or not.
It can only be shown the members in the List using DisplayMember which are Exposed using Properies.

You just need to databind the control again, or manually add the item ( you may not be able to manually add to a databound item ). The control does not watch the source, it only binds when you tell it to

I doubt that the fact that your lists are generic is the cause of your problem.
Take a look at this thread[^], from a while ago, which basically had the same problem. Unfortunately any code is C# but you may be able to get enough from the textual parts to apply it to your situation.
If not and you are not sufficiently familiar with C# to use it as it is, please post back.

I was wondering how simple/difficult it would be to modify a control such as a panel so that lines can be drawn to connect multiple panels (or any other control) together.
I suppose the best example i can think of is the Entity Relationship tool available in MS Access.
Here each 'panel' represents a table and contains a list of fields, each field can be linked to fields within other panels with a line.
The issue with this example is that the lines connecting the 'panels' are not particularly smart in that they are unable to navigate around objects.
I want to create a panel, that can connect to other panels with a line which does not get drawn behind or over any other panel that gets in the way.
The line should figure out a route around any objects in the way.
maybe it would keep things simple if the lines could only be vertical or horizontal.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions on where i should start.

Where are you stuck? What have you tried?
better yet, to help me understand the psyche of people who post questions as such, what would be the ideal answer someone can give you?

Hi all,
I have a job of separating the file name from its extension and wtitting it into a text file.
I have succeeded in that, but I find that there are few files with many separations/partitions in the file name. say for example: aaa_bbb.01.0101.pdf or aaa.01.0101.pdf
Thanks in advance.

This writes a line. As it says. So, instead, just write the text, not a line, and add a tab after it.

That will only work for pdf files and only if the extension is lowercased. The better thing to do would be to replace this:
Dim posn As Integer, i As Integer
Dim fName As String
posn = 0
For i = 1 To Len(flname)
If (Mid(flname, i, 1) = "\") Then posn = i
Next i
fName = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Strings.Right(flname, Len(flname) - posn)
with this:
fName = System.IO.Path.GetFilenameWithoutExtension(flname)
Then you will be guaranteed to never get the extension no matter what it is. Also, you can do without the extra temporary variable here:
Dim words As String = fName
Dim split As String() = words.Split(New [Char]() {" "c, ","c, "."c, ":"c, "_"c, "-"c})
because calling Split (or any other method) on a string does not change the original string.
