Are you receiving an error, or is it just giving unexpected data?

Ok, you will need to create the SQL Query string to incorporate the user's input. The way you are trying to do it is causing the Database to treat userin as a parameter.
Dim myQuery as String
myQuery = "SELECT yourFields FROM yourTables WHERE [ContractEnd] BETWEEN NOW AND DATEADD('m'," & userin & ",NOW)"
This simply concatenates the string to include the user input. Of course, it is likely better to create a parameter for the user's input in the query, then pass the user's input to it. I am not sure how you would do this in Access, as I have not used it in many years.

I am using visual studio .net 2002 i installed it in win-2000.
the software is running effectively in 2000.
.exe file which are made in vb.net are not running in XP why?

YOu haven't supplied enough information to solve the problem. Are there any error messages? What does this app do? What function of this app isn't working? Is there anything in the event logs that pertains to your app? Is the .NET Framework 1.0 installed on the XP machine?

I've no idea.
What do you mean by "not running in XP"?
|
|
|
|
|
the problem is "the software which is made in vb.net on win 2000 amd succesfully executed is not running on win-xp"
the errror shown as "the application is failed to initialize proprly"

Does the XP machine have the .NET Framework 1.0 installed??
Get it here[^] if it's not.

I am moving to VS 2005 and .Net 2.0
Could anyone recommend books on all forms of .Net 2.0 programming, ASP.NET, VB.NET, ADO.NET, Forms 2.0 etc
Also for SQL Server 2005.
Many thanks.

There are plenty of books on all these topics and you will get different answers from different people! If you already have experience of .NET 1.1 you should be able to get by quite well just by reading the online resources as and when you need them. If you're new to .NET as such - well, I learnt initially from Jesse Liberty's "Programming C#" book.He has one for VB as well. I also bought his Programming ASP.NET book, which is in both C# and VB. The only .NET 2 book I've got so far is Professional .NET Generics. But then I haven't used .NET 2 very much yet except to do a bit of stuff with my personal web site. At work we're still on .NET 1.1.

Thanks for your input.
I have got an MCSD in .NET 1.1 so I'm fairly familiar with that. I do feel that I need to update my skills to .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005.
I've had no real need for it as yet, but I would like to know more about it before I am thrown in the deep end!
I learned for a long time from the Microsoft books. It was quite some time before I realised that other people are so much better at teaching than Microsoft are. I just want to know if anyone has any recommendations, so that I don't have to battle with Microsoft's grammar again! I was also surprised of how much they actually have WRONG in their books...

If you're an MCSD I'm sure you'll get along just fine without books.

Well that's comforting to know. That leads me to believe that there is not much new in .Net 2.0...
I'll take your advice and look at the online resources...when I get the chance!
Thanks for your input.

Same here and I've also been flirting with .NET 2.0. I've been getting most of my info from MSDN.

That seems to be the common advice.
Have you found it to be that much different?
I have been talking to a few others about this and I am told that some features in 1.1 are now obsolete! I think the discussion was something about retrieving AppSettings from a config file. Seems there is a new ConfigurationManager...
I'll not ask too many questions since I have not done much research yet. I just wanted to jump the gun and see if anyone had any suggestions. Seems I can find all I need online.
Thanks for your input.

There are a number of new features in .NET 2.0 (+400 say the ads), & I like most of those that I've come across. I've been playing around with 2.0 using the express editions. I haven't used it to build anything noteworthy just yet - I'm still just feeling it out.

Steve,
Don't know if these recommendations are of use but I really liked Mastering Visual Basic .NET by Evangelos Petroutsos ISBN 0-7821-2877-7. Maybe this same author has a newer book which covers your needs. Also, when I wrote code in asp.net for 2005, I wish I had a book with the treeview class. You might be able to date a book on asp.net if it has a section on that book. The asp.net book I have is Mastering asp.net with vb.net by A. Russell Jones ISBN 0-7821-2875-0. Again, maybe this book/author has a later version to help your needs. Both books have screens shots, good code examples, and what I thought were good technical explanations.
Hope this helps

Thanks Tanya.
I'll keep those authors in mind.
I have sourced quite a few Microsoft books on the subject but I am loathed to try them from my past experience with Microsoft teaching materials.
Thanks for your input.

Hi,
I need move data from a access database to a sql 2005 database, using ado.net and VB.net
Basically, the user will select which access database to move to sql 2005, choosing from a select box on a webpage. I use an FileUpload tag to let the user select the access database(MDB file), to convert to sql 2005 database.
At the moment I can get all the data from the access database into a dataset using OleDbConnection. I just dont know how to move this information in the dataset to the sql database, in one function.
Does anyone know if there is code out there that does this, of know where I can find info on this?
Really appreciate the help.
Thanks

Does the DB already exist in SQL Server?
If so, read your data into an ADO.NET DataSet and then write it to your SQL database.
If not, you will need to do the same as above but also use some TRANSACT SQL to build your database and tables in SQL Server.
I don't know of any publicly available (free) code that will do this for you. You will have to create it yourself. However, you may be able to purchase a pre-written utility that does this for you, don't know of one though...

Thanks Steve,
Yes, the database is already in sql, just need to get the info from mdb, and export to sql.
I used the dataset method, and it seems to work very nicely. Just need to run a few tests and do some validation now.
