It means that you have a security issue. This[^] is how I'd look for a solution.

Well, your urgency isn't my urgency or anyone else's around here. It is considered rude to place that particular phrase in your post. It shows a certain degree of disrespect to other individual's time/patience.

Ok, well now that i know how to show the desktop, something else i need the program i am making to do is shutdown, restart, hibernate, and most importantly standby the computer. I know there is a shutdown.exe in the windows directory, and i was wondering if that could do it (if it can, i don't know what commands to pass to it). Also, if your really smart, it would be nice if i could know how to shut down the computer and have it restart after x amout of time (i have seen that done with a 50-second interval, and i don't know if it can be done with variable amounts of time).

Hi,
do you remember those good old days where /? gave help information on DOS commands?
It still works for shutdown.exe, so most of your needs have an easy solution based
on Process.Start(). The restart-with-delay does not seem to be in the list of options tho.

Thanks, and that helps a lot, but neither of those methods have a function to hibernate or put the comp into standby. Is there any way i can do that?

Hiya,
Its nothing important but I just wondered what the difference between this:
TextBox1.Text = ("Hello, World!")
and this is:
TextBox1.[Text] = "Hello, World!"
Thanks, Lloyd

Oh I see, so why are there two ways?

There really aren;t, that is, I've never seen anyone use that second syntax, anywhere.

In VB.net, it is necessary to enclose an identifier in brackets if (1) the identifier matches the name of a keyword, and (2) the identifier is used in a context where the keyword would be valid. Enclosing an identifier is harmless in any case (except, of course, when what one really wants is the keyword).
I would expect that some programmers habitually enclose in brackets identifiers that would be valid as keywords in any context, rather than try to worry about contexts where they might be mistaken as keywords.
As for the parentheses around the string literal, I see no particular reason for them. They're harmless, but pointless.

Oh ok
I just wanted to know because I was testing the Spices.Net decompiler for .Net and everytime it decompiled one of my projects it would put the [] around the .Text bit.

I am working on a macro app. I need to know how to show the desktop from my application. I already have functions from the user32 and kernel32 that will do things like minimize windows, close windows, ect. Is there a function inside a windows dll that will show the desktop, or is there another way to do it? I have already tried to do something simple like
Shell("Show Desktop.scf")
And that failed miserably.

The desktop is shown by minimising all the windows, enumerating and minimising seems the best way to me.

Maybe something like this[^] would do the trick...?

This is C# code but it should be easy to convert.
Shell32.ShellClass shell = new Shell32.ShellClass();
((Shell32.IShellDispatch4) shell).ToggleDesktop();
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000);
((Shell32.IShellDispatch4) shell).ToggleDesktop(); You'll need to add a reference to shell32.dll which is in the System32 folder in XP.

Hello, I am beginner vb.net programmer from Greece. I would appriciate if someone could help where to search to find how can i draw on an immage on a form. For example to draw dots or simple lines on a specific image on a picture that is placed on a picture box and then save it in a database as an image. The only thing that i know is the database part.
Thx a lot for your time

You use the paint event to draw on your form, draw the bitmap first then draw on it. The Graphics object is what you need to research.
