go to start, choose run. enter regedit
go to hkey_current_user > software > microsoft > windows > currentversion > policies > system
if there is a dword called "nodispcpl" then edit the value, otherwise create a dword named "NoDispCPL". either way set the value to "0"

I was going to use AspEmail, but looking at the documentation, what do I specifify for the smtp mail server on this PC (my be connected directly or via a LAN).
Are they anyway you can determine this?
e.g. I can type ipconfig into a DOS Window and find my IP number are they anything similar!

Read the documents supplied by your ISP, thay should tell you what your outgoing mail server (SMTP server) is.

OK, writing my first Web Site and I was going to test it on an old PC running Windows 2000. I have installed IIS on this PC(all default settings on it) to test the site; in particular the 'Contact Us' page.
Now this Windows 2000 PC in on my home network (LAN) and I only use my hotmail on this PC.
The Web pages work fine, its just how to test the e-mail aspects of the Web Site under test.
The mail server of the Gateway PC is mail.btinternet.com, I have tried this on the Windows 2000 PC but no e-mail is output.
Hope this helps to identify my problem!

The SMTP server can't be identified using ipconfig. This information is usually provided by your ISP, if your application is intended to use the server provided with your Internet access account. If you're writing a webpage that uses AspEmail to send forms completed by users, you will generally want to use the SMTP server provided by your web hosting provider. In either case, you need to contact your provider for the name or address of the proper SMTP server.

When a user in windows selects some files and copies them (so he can paste them somewhere else) how could ab application get those files that are placed in clipboard?
I tried GetClipboardData() API but I couldn't get any such info out of it. How could I get the files placed in clipboard, please?
Thanks in advance

Hello and thanks for the answer.
I read the link you'd posted, but it described how to use the getClipboardData() API (and other functions necessary for getting data from clipboard).
As a matter of fact, I had myself used this function but, it does not return anything when the user (from out of the application) places some files on the clipboard.
I am writing a program that is going to copy files and folders with much more options that windows provides us with. But now I need to have access to files copied into clipboard, to be able to paste them somewhere else using my own program.
I'd be glad if some one could help me with that.
Thanks again

hi
first thank you for your consideration.
I checked all the four links, you know, in fact the one in vb.net, exactly does the same as the GetClipboardData() API. I compiled it. it worked when the clipboard data was text, bitma or any other available clipboard format.
but when I select a file (in windows explorer) and copy it to clipboard using Ctrl+C, it does not return anything.
but about other 3 links:
In fact they perform file/folder operations. my program already does the copying and works quite fine in copying files and folders. but I want to add another functionality to my program that could get the files copied in clipboard (as described) and when the user, on the destination folder presses "Paste here using my app" it starts copying them to the destination folder.
Hope I had been enough clear.

Hi,

I used the file "shutdown.exe" in windows XP to shutdown while run as an administrator. how if there are no administrator privillages?
Thanks

don't cross post like that.
your question is VB relative, so the VB forum was the right place.
if you have no answers, it is because either no one knows the answer or you did not formulate you question correctly, or clear enough...
but i doubt you have been waiting enough time before posting here because you asked it only 1 minute later...
cheers,

That's not that much of cross post, since I knew that the answer is not related to VB itself.
The answer was one windows API called "InitiateSystemShutdown" which could be used in any language, couldn't it?
By the way, I had also posted this on the VB forum and I got the answer from that forum.

If your knowledges go beyond VB (a thing I wish you! ), you can find a sample on how to shutdown a PC in these C++ sources[^], which deal with the different ways to shutdown Win9x and NT-based OS.

This message should be post in VB/VB.Net forum. But don't worry, I still give you the answer. Let check the information from here[^]. The below of the article there are additional link to reboot and logoff the computer from vb6.
Good luck

Errr...wrong place to post VB question , but whatever.. Check the allapi network, although it says "we're closed" and stuff, you can still download api-guide and api viewer, two fine apps, very usefull for VB6 programming.

If my memory still works, they already have several shutdown examples somewhere in there..
Good luck!

Hi. Is there a way to block a windows session in XP home edition? There is this option in Windows 2000, when you press ctrl+alt+del. For example, at some point i want to go awas from my computer, but to block the sesion, so that i have to retype the password then. This happends with the screensaver, but i want to activate immediatelly. Hope you will understand my question.
Thanks a lot!
