Well, given your low system specs, I'd built something myself, starting off with DSL, LFS or SW (DSL = Damn Small Linux, SW = Slackware (both are distributions), LFS = Linux from Scratch (more a flavour than a distribution).
(Not really "maintained", though)
You may also be successful with Ubuntu or SuSe.
Cheers,
Sebastian

If the function succeeds, the return value is an open handle to the specified file.
If the specified file exists before the function call and dwCreationDisposition is
CREATE_ALWAYS or OPEN_ALWAYS, a call to GetLastError returns ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS
(even though the function has succeeded). If the file does not exist before the call,
GetLastError returns zero.

Assuming you mean the \\.\PhysicalDriveX or \\.\X: syntax, you can't do that in Win 9x.

I have Windows Media Center 2002 or 2003 or whatever back before they were giving it a real designation. I believe it is backed by Windows XP Professional.
Anyway the problem I am having is that my permissions are screwed and I cant find anything that might fix them. I have 3 accounts and all are administrators, I use mine almost daily while the other two are occasional, one is my wife's and the other is for common stuff like pictures and iPod etc...
My account can access anything I want to access while the other two suddenly cannot. I tried deleting them and adding them again, one with a different name and it had no effect. I looked at the group memberships, i.e. the Administrators group does contain those two accounts, and that group has access to everything that they should and they still cant always access things. I noticed this first because my NIS 2007 wont start for those accounts and I thought it was a software issue but it turns out it is a permissions issue and I cant override the permissions on those files, it tells me the account cannot have that permission or something along those lines. I also had issues where pictures in the Shared Documents can be accessed by me but not them and they cant add themselves, only my account can.
I tried running Chkdsk /r and it didnt change anything in those regards. Do you have any ideas on this one?

No but it's funny you would ask because it is an HP M370n Media Center PC.

I am using ImageMagick in combination with GhostScript to convert PDF files into JPG. Everything works fine on XP or Windows 2000 Systems, but when I uploaded my app to a Virtual Private Server which runs a Windows Server 2003 I get the following error:

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true">, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
Any ideas how I could fix that problem? I googled but couldn't find a solution that works for me
Thanks
Stephan

Hi Sebastian,
This solved my problem - thank you very much. I granted ASP.NET access to the ImageMagick program folder. In addition I had to add ImageMagick to COM+ because after I granted the access I got the error "convert: 410: missing an image file".
THANKS A LOT!
Cheers!

Download the installer here[^] and run it. It should install MDAC 2.8 for you. This MDAC version also ships with Windows Server 2003, so if you have a copy of that lying about somewhere you may be able to install it from the CD.

It's integrated with Windows Server 2003's Setup, not as a separate component on the CD.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for your reference.
I have downloaded & installed MDAC higher version in my system properly.
Thanks once again

Hi, how do I use PsLogList to monitor logon+logoff (able to distinguish between the two)?
I think for both Logon AND logoff, from Event View \ Security log:
Souce=Security
Category=Logon/Logoff
Logon Type=3 or 7 (Not sure what these mean...)
Examples:
<br />
User Logoff:<br />
User Name: someuser<br />
Domain: somedomain<br />
Logon ID: (0x0,0x1B998DFC)<br />
Logon Type: 7<br />
<br />
Special privileges assigned to new logon:<br />
User Name: <br />
Domain: <br />
Logon ID: (0x0,0x1B998DFC)<br />
Privileges: SeBackupPrivilege<br />
SeRestorePrivilege<br />
SeDebugPrivilege<br />
SeChangeNotifyPrivilege<br />
<br />
Successful Logon:<br />
User Name: someuser<br />
Domain: somedomain<br />
Logon ID: (0x0,0x1B998DFC)<br />
Logon Type: 7<br />
Logon Process: User32 <br />
Authentication Package: Negotiate<br />
Workstation Name: AA813885<br />
Logon GUID: {5ff6f53a-d211-0e0f-a5e4-58a82fd3de82}<br />
<br />
User Logoff:<br />
User Name: MACHINENAME$<br />
Domain: somedomain<br />
Logon ID: (0x0,0x1B82FF0D)<br />
Logon Type: 3<br />
Not sure how to interpret these - I just want to monitor a machine see if it's ever rebooted during the evening.
Thanks in advance.

Then forget looking at logons and logoffs - just get a copy of uptime.exe.
