Does "change user /install" and "change user /execute" work for Power Users?
Not sure about that...

while starting system its giving error: minor error in file 38592
and then system going restart state.
can any one help me.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/140469[^] documents what 'minor error in file' means.
The fact that it's continually restarting suggests that some other file has become corrupted. It's probably generating a bugcheck (STOP error, blue screen) but is configured to automatically reboot when this occurs, so you're stuck in a reboot cycle.
I'd actually replace this hard disk. Once you have the OS up and running again on a different disk, you can plug the old disk in and see if you can recover the data from it.
If you don't care about the data on it, try running an in-place repair. Read these steps[^] for how to do this.

You don't need to plug another hard disk in to recover the files on the old one. Come on. You just need a nice linux based live cd. Slax[^] is great for the job and it has a nice and easy gui. And it requires no install whatsoever, it'a a live cd. Check it out Cheers.

I am trying to replace a supporting report dll in system32 folder that by web app uses. I unload the web app, disable webserver in IIS and I am unable to copy or delete the file into the folder (access denied file in use etc). Only way I can get around it is to re-boot the computer and copy over at that time. Not a very productive way to accomplish this.
Any thoughts on how to do this easier?

Hello Richard,
Thanks a lot for giving the reference. I tried to do what they asked to follow to disable the performance counters, still i did not get any solution for the problem. That is i did reset of the Dword value to 1 and to 0 back. There was no change in that error for both the values.
Kindly tell me what i should do?
Thanks,
Sabari

That has nothing to do with his problem. The CMOS setting just makes it start back up when power is lost. His problem is that his computer won't shutdown at all.

While running my application i got following error in Application log
Faulting application .exe, version , faulting module mfc42u.dll, version 6.2.8071.0, fault address 0x0000239d.
Corresponding error was logged in System Log
Application Error : The instruction at "0x5f801088" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Could you let me know when can the above errors occur and what is the cause?

Your application passed a bad pointer into MFC and it crashed. Run the debug build of your program under the debugger and repeat whatever it was that you did. That should show you - if you're lucky, with an ASSERT, otherwise an exception - where the problem occurs.
If the problem does not recur with a debug build, consider building your release build with debugging information. This is still allowed and is a very good idea for troubleshooting this kind of problem. Under C/C++ in Project Settings, under Debug Info, select Program Database. Then, on the Link tab, check Generate Debug Info. In the Project Options box, add the switch /OPT:REF (this is the default but is suppressed when Generate Debug Info is enabled). The latter switch removes unreferenced code from your project (although it does not have much effect unless Enable Function-Level Linking is enabled under the Customize category of the C/C++ tab).
Most likely you passed a null pointer and MFC tried to use the second member of the structure.

Windows Server 2008 has been released to manufacturing along with tools and training resources for developers and ISVs. Windows Server 2008 is part of worldwide launch events that highlights the wave of new products that also include SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008.
Two million copies of beta and evaluation version of Windows Server 2008 have been downloaded.
Windows Server 2008 was developed in tandem with the Windows Vista code base and has most of that operating system’s advanced management and security features, such as integrated Network Access Protection (NAP) and Group Policy. You will also see system-wide performance improvements from an integrated system architecture, including network file sharing, managed quality of service and reduced power consumption. Common tools and processes across both operating systems will result in efficiencies for your customers.
Microsoft expects there to be at least 80 software applications certified for Windows Server 2008 by the end of February, and roughly 300 more that are considered ready for the new platform. A complete list of compatible hardware and software products is available at http://www.windowsservercatalog.com.
More details are available in the Windows Server 2008 RTM news release.
