Hi,
I encountered problem during uploading of my excel file 3MB size. At first, when I test my upload.aspx in my local web server it works fine, but after I added my upload.aspx file into the real web server and when I test, it gives an error.
Please see the error below. And as I do some research some of the developers have the same problem and there's no definite solution yet.
Can this be fixed, but how?

The failure is coming in that the Connection to the DB is not being made correctly.
Check your web.config and make sure that your connection string (sConnectionString) is valid and points to the IP or server name of the Database correctly as well as checking all your concerned settings.
This tends to be either: an IIS issue on the Web Server or a web.config typo.
My suggestion is to start with the web.config and make sure you can establish a valid connection by trying to fill a "Hello World" table first; then work backward from there.

Hi,
This is how I create a connection for my spreadsheet in excel. The source code below about connecting to excel has no problem when accessing it in the local web server, but when accessing it from real web server the error appears.
I can't figure it out if what's really wrong.
Source code Error:
Dim sConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" _
& "Data Source=" & FileUpload.FileName.ToString & ";" _
& "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;"
' Create connection object by using the preceding connection string.
Dim objConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection(sConnectionString)
' Open connection with the database.
objConn.Open()
' The code to follow uses a SQL SELECT command to display the data from the worksheet. 4158531 - 33
' Create new OleDbCommand to return data from worksheet.
Dim objCmdSelect As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand("Select * From [summary$]", objConn)

i have deployed a jsp and servelet applciation in intranet.
the pages work fine for all the browsers but not for safari.
actually i was using websphere for the EAR file.
when i tried to debug, i found that it was not showing any value for username
prior to the displaying of the page.
what the application does is that first of all before loading the page, it prompts for the user name and password for the domain i.e it checks for the active directory then only it load the file.
probably that is the point where safari does not work.
what could have gone wrong? do i need to configure something?

Hi everyone.
I am developing one client live support or customer assistant application using asp.net with c#.
I developed 2 class one is
server and another is client.
In server class i wrote 5 method
1 for start the server.
2 for accept the connection from client.
3 to send data or msg to the client.
4. to receive the data or msg from client
5. to stop or disconnect the client from the server.
In client class i wrote 4 method
1 for connect to the server
2 for send data to the server
3 for receive data from the server
4 to disconnect from the server
I call server.start() method from page load event first from server.aspx page and in client.aspx page load
event I called client.connect() method to connect with the server. So when any client made a request
from remote server how we can come to know that some client made a request so we can accept it. and
from where i can call accept method is any thing is there to achieve it. pls help me if u can or send me
details decription ok
Some what like call back
Thanks

I have dynamically added user controls to the webparts.I have added event handlers to these user controls..
But the events do not fire..
can anyone tell me how do I go about resolving this issue..
Thanks

What events? Are the controls housed in a placeholder or panel?
Need a code snippet or some detail to move forward on this.

I'm converting some code from PHP to C# (.Net 2.0). Can someone that knows PHP verify that the C# code I wrote does the same thing as the original PHP code? The actual line I'm concerned about is inside the for loop.
private string HexToBin(string data)
{
int length = data.Length;
string newData = "";
for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i += 2)
{
string value = data.Substring(i, 2);
newData += Int32.Parse(value, NumberStyles.HexNumber).ToString();
}
return newData;
}
Maybe that line in the for loop needs to be this?
newData += string.Format("{0}", Int32.Parse(value, NumberStyles.Integer));
If I completely mangled it up, don't be shy about telling me, but give me the correct code if you feel up to it.

You can't write a .NET function that does the same as that PHP code, as there are no binary strings in .NET. A PHP character is an eight bit value, while a .NET character is a 16 bit unicode character.
Binary data in .NET is usually represented as a byte array:
private byte[] HexToBin(string data) {
int length = data.Length / 2;
byte[] newData = new byte[length];
for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) {
string value = data.Substring(i * 2, 2);
newData[i] = Byte.Parse(value, NumberStyles.HexNumber);
}
return newData;
}

Actually - I can:
private string HexToBin
{
string newData = "";
if (data != "")
{
for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i += 2)
{
string hexValue = data.Substring(i, 2);
string binValue = string.Format("{0}", <code>Int32</code>.Parse(hexValue, NumberStyles.AllowHexSpecifier));
newData += binValue;
}
}
return newData;
}

That depends on what you mean by "work". They both do something, and the result is the same in both cases, but neither of them produce a result that is useful in any way.
If you have a string containing hexadecimal values, like "07FF10", that code will produce a string containing "725516". That's not a binary string as all, it's just a string containing the digits from the decimal representation of the hexadecimal values. It can't be used for anything at all, not even reproducing the hexadecimal string, as is't impossible to determine where one value ends and the next one begins.

The original question was regarding the similarity in functionality, not what the result is to be used for. So back to the original intent - does the C# version do the same thing as the PHP version?

No, they don't, as they can't. As I explained, strings doesn't work the same in .NET as in PHP, so there is no .NET equivalent of the PHP binary string.
If you want to work with binary data in .NET you use a byte array instead.
If the binary data represents encoded text, you use one of the Encoding classes to decode the data back to a string. If the binary data for example is text encoded as UTF-8, you use the Encoding.UTF8.GetString method to decode the byte array into a string.

I finally got a chance to try this at home, and here's the C# version of the PHP code posted in the original message:
private string HexToBin(string data)
{
string newData = "";
if (data != "")
{
for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i += 2)
{
string hexValue = data.Substring(i, 2);
newData += Convert.ToChar(Byte.Parse(hexValue, NumberStyles.HexNumber));
}
}
return newData;
}

That function doesn't do the same as the PHP function.
As I already explained, you need to use an Encoding class do decode the data if you want the result as a string. Now you are just taking the data and using it as unicode character codes. That only works for the characters that happen to have the same character code in unicode as they have in the encoding that was used to create the data.

No. The file data is sent in the request to the server. No postback, no upload.
