Hello, there,
I am using Ajax in an application page in SharePoint 2007. I found that when there is an exception. Ajax will show a dialog box says " Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message
received from the server could not be parsed.", and the original exception message is not displayed.
I know I can use registerpostbackcontrol() function to register the button that causes the exception to make the original SharePoint error page to show up. But I do not want to do that. Is there any other way to make the original SharePoint exception/error page to show up?
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Bin

This is actually trivial. If you were using simple AJAX techniques built directly on XMLHttpRequest. See, that API gives you a handy responseText property that will give you what the server sent back without trying to parse it first.
But you're not. You're using some sort of complicated .NET thing built to conceal the simplicity of XMLHttpRequest. Try the ASP.NET forum[^], or perhaps find a Sharepoint forum. A place where masochists gather and delight in sharing tales of their byzantine workarounds for this baroque platform.

Hi everybody,
I need to call/include/import a JavaScript file (*.js) in another JavaScript (*.js) file. How can i do this.
I tried to do writing a line in script file like:
document.write("");
But this method writes the line to the document so i cannot use/call functions from another files which are stored in different folders.
Thanks for your help.

I had no idea so I Googled: Javascript include
and found this on the first page of results[^]!

You're on the right track - but instead of writing to the document, create the <script> element using document.createElement() , set the attributes programatically, and then attach it to the document.
If you want an example... or a robust, ready-to-use implementation... check out the jQuery getScript function[^].

Script tags aren't parsed in Javascript files. I assume if he knew what needed to be loaded up-front, then he'd put that in the HTML though.

Try this:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="500" height="500" id="your_ID" align="middle">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
<param name="movie" value="yourFlash.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
<embed src="yourFlash.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="500" height="500" name="yourFlash.swf" align="middle" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />

I have a website that allows the file Demo.zip to be copied from the server in the usual line:
Download Demo here
Is there some way that a notification of this copying can be recorded in the server ?
For some people there must be an obvious solution, but not to me !
Thanks,

Unfortunately the code that I wrote in the question
Download Demo <a> href="prog/Demo.zip" here </a>
got treated as an active line.
So I repeat the question, is there some way that a notification of this copying can be recorded in the server ?
For some people there must be an obvious solution, but not to me !

a solution could be controlling download by code not by just referring to it, for example by a separate download page or using Response object to write the file, search for it and you will find many resources like this http://aspalliance.com/259[^]

Thanks, but I have had a look at the site you mention, and can't see how it helps.
I am looking for some kind of log file in the server which would record the fact that the file has actually been downloaded from the server to the client. I feel that if I knew something about asp I would know the answer.

hi,i thought you want to do this programatically, my bad
the solution i had in my mind was storing download data by controlling download with asp code

Hi everyone,
I've a problem with dropdown lists. The standart select/option's dropdown list is resized to the select's width, like whether the option is longer than select's width
[Select v]
[option 1]
[option 2]
...
I want the select's option list is resized longer widths, like
[select v]
[option 1 xxxxxxxx]
[option 2 yyyyyyyy]
...
How can i do this?
Thanks.

Good browsers will automatically resize the drop-down to fit the options displayed in it. For the unfortunate users of lesser browsers, you might try a hack like this: http://www.hedgerwow.com/360/dhtml/ui_select_with_fixed_width/demo.php[^]
Or just abandon drop-down select elements, and go with a list (set size to > 1).

In IE, this will also constrain the width of the dropdown (cutting off options longer than 200px in your example).

I would like to add an IHTMLElement dynamically to the HTML that contain an "A" ActiveX control.
That I want to add is another "B" ActiveX control.
So.. I programmed in "A" activex source code as below.
I created new element.
/* I deleted bstr, SysFreeString, VARIANT etc.. to understand easily */
IHTMLElement* pObjectElement=NULL;
m_pDoc2->createElement("<object>", &pObjectElement);
pObjectElement->setAttribute("classid", "clsid:AF0DDB60-76F8-4ADC-BF58-563EB7DF2B9D", 0); // "B" ActiveX control's Clsid
pObjectElement->setAttribute("width", "600");
pObjectElement->setAttribute("height", "400");
and.. attached it to the bodyElement.
m_pDoc2->get_body(&pElement);
pElement->QueryInterface(IID_IHTMLBodyElement, (LPVOID*)&pBody);
pBody->QueryInterface (IID_IHTMLDOMNode, (LPVOID*)&pParent);
pObjectElement->QueryInterface (IID_IHTMLDOMNode, (LPVOID*)&pChild);
pParent->appendChild (pChild, NULL);
It works well.
And.. I created another new element "param" to send "MyValue" to the "B" ActiveX control.
/* I deleted bstr, SysFreeString, VARIANT etc.. to understand easily */
IHTMLElement* pParamElement=NULL;
m_pDoc2->createElement("<param>", &pParamElement);
pParamElement->setAttribute("name", "src");
pParamElement->setAttribute("value", "MyValue");
and... attached it to the object element.
/* I inserted this code before object element is appended to the body element. like this..
* pChild->appendChild (pParam, NULL);
* pParent->appendChild (pChild, NULL);
*/
pParamElement->QueryInterface (IID_IHTMLDOMNode, (LPVOID*)&pParam);
pChild->appendChild (pParam, NULL);
But It doesn't work.
"B" ActiveX control couldn't receive "MyValue".
There are any problems in "B" ActiveX control. It works well in common situation.
so.. I thought it failed to append <param> to <object> element.
so, I appended a code to confirm whether param element is contained or not.
Surprisingly, <param> could find in it.
...I really really... don't know how I can solve this problem.
If anybody knows it, please answer me.

Wow, this seems like a horribly complicated method. And not really on-topic for the WebDev forum either.
vies00 wrote: /* I inserted this code before object element is appended to the body element. like this..

Ok... Is that true? Are you adding the param to the object before adding the object to the body ? Or did you try and then abandon that idea?

Hi All
In my asp.net 2.0 web application i am using AjaxToolKit version 1.0.20229.0 . Now the Issue is with IE 6.0 browser whenever the modal pop up is displaying browser hight is getting increased.
AJAX modal pup is adding pixels to the height of the browser now user can scrolls down the vertical scroll bar to infinite.
this is happening in IE 6 only its working fine in Mozilla and IE 7.0
Thanks and Regards
Sandeep

Given that you didn't bother posting any code illustrating the problem, i'm going to assume you think it's specific to the ajax toolkit you're using. If so, you should take it up with whoever wrote that.
