Softsys[^] have been working well for me
Granted, I've only been using them for a couple of months, but there were far fewer pains setting everything up than I had with other hosting companies (I'd recommend avoiding 1&1), and they are very affordable

I'm hosted by ixwebhosting; I've been with them for over 2 years and I'm very happy with their services.

I use Parcom[^]. You get a lot for a low price. The years that I have been with them I've had one email problem.

I'm using IX Webhosting. Very good. Costs me about $125/year for 3 domains. Pretty cheap - very reliable.

I use Mochahost and have not had a problem. Their packages are pretty well built out and reasonable. I have had really good service from customer support as well. They are based out of US west coast though if that matters to you.

Ouch ... Mochahost? No way... Unfortunatelly i'm using their service, and everytime i have a problem ( wich is aprox twice a month ), i cannot solve it through their Control Panel ... so, i have to create support tickets ... wait, wait, wait, and then, suddenly, after a month, it's solved ... or not!

I've been through several hosting companies and hosting solutions and have finally settled on the Virtual Private Server (VPS) option. Rather than just getting a slice of shared web space, you get an entire VM.
But the best solution I've found, and the one I currently use, are Hyper-V VMs from Ultima Hosts. It is super stable and I'm very impressed with the performance.
You have admin on the VM, so you can install any supporting software you need (SQL Express, etc.).
USD $55 for base Hyper-V VPS, $35 for base Virtuozzo VPS. Note: YMMV with Virtuozzo. It's a different kind of virtualization platform and it has its quirks. Hyper-V, for me, has been awesome. Highly recommended.

I recommend Hypermart ( http://hypermart.com )
My web site runs about $8 (US) a month and the service is great.
You can set up things like a content manager or a forum (ie. WordPress, Drupal, Jumla, etc.) in minutes and have a fully functioning web site.
I code my own HTML web pages and upload via FTP and I use WordPress for a Blog and Simple Machines for a support forum.
I have used Hypermart for about 10 years and they are fantastic. They even have fast "Chat" style tech support where you get immediate results and actually talk directly to a real person. Problems can be resolved in minutes, rather than days.
It is easy to register domain names (about $11/year) for your web site.
Hypermart cators to businesses, small and large.
For software developers who want to sell their software online, in combination with Hypermart, I recommend BMT-Micro ( http://bmtmicro.com ) for handling the credit card stuff and taking orders. I have used them for about 10 years now and they are amazing. The services are great. They can even handle sales to the EU and deal with the VAT tax. They handle all sorts of credit cards and other forms of payment.
Combine these two and a programmer can start selling his software on the internet within a days time and have the look and feel of a "big" company.

When I read the Aplus.net I shuddered. Yep, been there (but just issues with simple domain name and dns stuff years ago).
Sorry to hear of the problems. Yes, I'd run away.
I recently did due diligence and signed up for two hosts (one for our church and one for my use) with an eye for good DNN hosting and came up with 3essentials.com and ddn4less.com
I don't have much to offer of experience yet bus so far so good on set up of DNN and I get sql server with both of these of course for a decent price so it seems to fit your requirements and I thought I'd offer.

I can certainly empathize with you on this issue! Aplus.net - well I have now moved about 23-24 of my clients off of their hosting service.
Their problems realllly began about a year ago when they performed a major system upgrade (ultimately a downgrade). If I had a dollar for every support call or online chat I had with idiots - with the ticket being escalated and I waited another 24hrs!
Winhost.com is where I am hanging my hat and all of my clients too these days. They are considerably less $$$ and their services actually get delivered without a hitch - so far that is.
According to one tech Aplus has suffered substantial attrition and it has to hurt them! Go figure.

I chose to buy my own boxes and colo because of too much pain with hosting companies.
One client that I support recently had a server compromised but as it was a leased box (not managed by them) they would not let us near it to rebuild! They also did not offer to do anything to actually help us get the services back up and running. They had no interest in the fact that the server was down. That company has now lost that client, who is now going to buy his own boxes and colo with me managing them.
Cheers

Superb, friendly support. Excellent control panel (that works). I've had several sites with them for years. Rarely a problem, and very fast, personal response if there is.

I'm impressed with these guys; they do a good job - or is it because my former host was so lame?

I'm using ASPNix[^] their web hosting is good. Price is also very good.

I would also recommend DiscountAsp.net.
I have been with them for more than 6 years and I haven't had any real issues (and when I did their customer service has always been great). To give you an idea I have 1 SQL Server database with them (over 420MB and still growing). The good thing is that you can access it from SQL Server Management Studio like if it was a local database. You can also backup (and restore) the database through their contol panel or their API (if you want to automate this process).
Regarding their webserver yes you can use .net 4.0

You should try Arvixe been with them for a while haven't had any problems. When I did have some minor issues, their support is superb.
Here are my reasons I signed up with them:
- Excellent Support Team
- Very economical. ASP.NET Personal starts at $5.00/month. Heck you can even use coupon code TOPHOST or MVCHOSTING to save 30%.
- Free .COM .NET etc domain for each hosting plan.
- Supports Classic ASP, ASP.NET 4, ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight Audio/Video Streaming.
- Unlimited bandwidth and diskspace.
- Unlimited MSSQL, MySQL, Access database. MSSQL 10GB size limit.
- Unlimited Email Accounts.
- User-friendly Control Panel (DotNetPanel).
Arvixe is the best ASP hosting for me hands down. If you don't believe me, then try any of their hosting and if your not satisfied with them then you can get your money back within 2 months no questions asked.

I've got a service program that runs, is stopped by the Service Control panel, appears to exit cleanly (at least that's what all my logs tell me), yet in the Event Viewer, there's an entry claiming the exe faulted! What gives? Any clues as to what would cause this? Are there any special build settings I need to use (It's a standard C++ app).
Should note that this is a 32 bit exe running on Windows 2003 Server (64 bit). When run on the 32 bit version it runs fine.

I dont have cpanel.

I wasn't too sure where to put this - please suggest alternative locations (and chastise me if necessary!) if you haven't got a helpful answer...
The company I work at is in the process of virtualising all their servers and is taking a snapshot of the live database server and wants to use this as an image for dev and test environments so that all they're all standardised. I'm currently going through the process of changing server names etc; does anyone who has experience of this have any pointers for things I'll need to check that I'm likely to have missed?
TIA
