Hi all,
I'm developing a software on Pocket PC: HP iPAQ hx2400, Japanese OS. And I have a problem in IME management.
Some text box on my application only wish to get alpha characters, so I need to change the IME mode to alpha, not katakana or hiragana as default of Pocket PC.
I already tried to use "ImmSetConversionStatus", but this function only works properly on Emulator, but actual Pocket PC.
Any one help me?

hello,
I want to associate an icon with my pocket pc application, i learned that there are two kinds of icons size: 16 * 16 for the start menu icon and 32 * 32 for the other places. I have the two icons but how do i associate them with my application for each case.
And by the way, when i deploy the application, the application's folder installs itself in the program files folder, i want to have a shortcut of my application in the 'programs' folder of the start menu when i deploy it.
How do i automate this process?
Thank you.

If you are using C++, the application icon is the one with the lowest resource ID number. You can mix both resolutions on the same icon and Windows will know which one to use.

I have a question about a difference between Visual Studio 6.0 and eMbedded Visual Studio 4.0. I created Add-In. This Add-In suppose to open files inside development studio. In order to open files inside Add-In I have code:
CString StringName = "C:\\Test.txt"
CComQIPtr<idocuments, &iid_idocuments=""> pDocs;
CComPtr<idispatch> pDispDocs;
CComBSTR bstrFile = StringName;
m_pApplication->get_Documents(&pDispDocs);
if (pDispDocs)
{
pDocs = pDispDocs; //query interface IDocuments
if (pDocs) //pointer to interface returned
{
CComVariant vtDocType = _T("Auto");
CComVariant vtBoolReadOnly = FALSE;
CComPtr<idispatch> pDispDoc;
hr = pDocs->Open(bstrFile , vtDocType, vtBoolReadOnly, &pDispDoc);
}
}
When I run my Add-In inside Visual Studio everything is working and my Add-In is able to open the file, but when I run it in EMbedded Visual Studio after I query interface IDocuments pDocs pointer is NULL. When I use the similar technique to add files to active project it works fine for both VC ++ 6.0 and eMbedded VC++ 4.0 but file opening fails inside eMbedded Studio.
Thanks!

I believe you need to use the headers from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft eMbedded C++ 4.0\EVC\Include\ObjModel , and you'll also need to define EVC4 , e.g. in the Preprocessor Definitions section of the C/C++ tab of Project Settings. eVC4 and Visual Studio 6 use different GUIDs - this allows them to better exist side-by-side. A problem in the old Windows CE Toolkit for Visual C++ 6.0 days was that installing the WCE Toolkit would often break your Visual C++ installation for compiling desktop apps, and IIRC required you to have a specific service pack level too.
Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

Dear all:
I am now conducting a project that supports recording videos from TV card. I am wondering if some has similar experience such as capturing videos from analog TV card or USB webcam.
Please let me share your experience if possible.
Thank you very much.

In my app I use a third party tool that handles formatting and sending of data over serial port/modem or wireless to a specific app on the server
Other than that I implemented my own Wireless communication to another app by means of sockets.
All works fine, however after my app uses the Wireless sending of data from the third party tool, my own sockets are unable to connect anymore The error that I get returned is:
WSANOTINITIALISED, so somehow the third party tool unloads the socket lib??
Just calling AfxSocketInit again, doesnt solve the problem... does anybody know how I can reinitialize the socket-library or something?
I tried calling WSACleanup but for some reason this call never gets compiled (in debugger this line is just skipped)...
Thanks for any help,
Davy

Hi you experts.
I develop an application for pocket pc using vb.net 2003. The pocket pc OS is windows mobile 2003 second edition.
I want to be able to take a photo and store it in a folder within my application. I know there is an API that does this sort of thing. Can you give me an example of how can i do it?
Thank you all in advance.

Does anyone know how to configure EVC4 to run a DLL debug, without an .exe file.
I have to debug a soft input panel dll, and for that i need to get the debugger to run the the debug process on POCEKT PC 2003 emulator, I can't attach the debugger to any process, because it keeps insisting on a exe file.
And i can't do that. So do you know if there is anyway of doing that, or of some super special microsoft configuration I could use, or should I give up and try debuging it on a Pocket machine? and how to do that then?
tnx

hello,
I am developping a compact framework app. using Web Services. When i try to call the web service, "unable to connect remote server" error is given. When i am using Windows Server 2003, it was enough to write the ip address shown in cmd/ipconfig to web reference property of the connection. But i have to use XP for a little time, and cmd/iponfig does not show anything and it is still not work for 127.0.0.1 .
What can i do..

I'm putting the finishing touches on my application and I am working on putting adding the icons. I've created an icon (.ico) file that had two images in it. One is a 32x32 for the programs menu and one is 16x16 for the programs menu. When I associate the icon with the application it uses the 16x16 icon in both places, and looks very wrong on the programs menu.
Can any one tell me how I can make it use the correct icon size?

My apps display the correct icons.. small one or big one whatever is required...
But I had a similar problem way back...
Check the following:
The ID of your application icon should be the lowest value of all icons you have in your app. (check out your resource.h for the value, and change if necessary)
Second open your .rc file in an editor and double check if in the Icon section (do a search for "// Icon") the first icon mentioned is you application icon. if it is not, put it first (use cut paste)
example of my .rc file:
<br />
<br />
IDR_MAINFRAME ICON DISCARDABLE "res\\mainfr.ico"<br />
IDI_EMPTY_ICON ICON DISCARDABLE "res\\icon1.ico"<br />
IDI_WARNING ICON DISCARDABLE "res\\ico00001.ico"<br />
Hope this gets you along..
Greetings,
Davy

Is Microsoft's "eMedded VC++ 4.0" (Service Pack 4) a stand alone development tool? Does it need Studio .NET? Can it be run with Visual Studio (VC++ 6.0)?
I have a ViewSonic V37 PocketPC running PPC 2002. I want to develop for it and one of my first project I would like to tackle is working with an Access DB (simple tables) synched from my desktop PC.
That is, I want to download my simple Access DB and then work with it on the PocketPC - lookup values from tables, simple GUI interaction.
Thanks,
Johnny

You need eVC3 instead.

Thanks! Do you (or anyone else out there) know what Service Packs go along with eMbedded 3.0? I'll look around MSDN site for v3.0
Thanks again.

There's a download named eMbedded Visual Tools 2002 Edition. That's all you need.

João Paulo,
I'm glad that I got help from you. I found previous postings from you at CodeProject (and PocketPC developer Network) that look like they could help me achive my first project - the simple database app on the pocket PC.
Thanks for the help and articles!

I want to create an Access database on my PocketPC (WinCE4.2, PocketPC 2003 OS). Then using C# to populate tables, query tables, ...
From a simple search on Google.com I find that I must use ADOCE.NET but I didn't succeed to download it and also didn't see any control that I can use from Visual Studio 2003 (I created a project for Smart Mobile Device).
Is there any one has experiences doing such kind of work?
Best regards,
A. Riazi

I do, but not too much time for it, I'm afraid. It is based on my latest article CEDB .NET[^].
