I am looking for some direction, I am not sure if it can be done. I am new to ASP.net programming but have been programming in VB for years(although I am still a novice) so any direction would be helpful.
I am wanting to create a program that will go to a secure web site, login(with a provided login/pass), fill in information on several pages, then either it will be screen scraping the information from the final web page or be getting a file from the site. The final step is the store the information gotten from the site file form or a database.
I am not sure what/where I need to look for some direction. What technology/books/web sites/classes will help me get the knowledge to start creating this program? Are there certain .NET classes that allow this(WebClient,WebRequest)?
I know of other companies doing this like QL2, I want to build my own.
Thanks for any help.

This has nothing to do with ASP.NET. ASP.NET creates websites, not programs that attempt to control them. You do that with a winforms app, with a web browser control on it.

I have a table and I want to upload a txt file and read 6 of the values from the text file, which has 100 values into the table. I want to only input values [74], [75], [6], [92], [90], and [35].
I would like to perform the following:
click UploadFile button and onclick in the background the code will read the file and input the values [74], [75], [6], [92], [90], and [35] into columns a, b, c, d, e, f
display updated form with values a=[74], b=[75], c=[6], d=[92], e=[90], f=[35]
have a submit button that when it is clicked it will write the values to the database
I have tried but with no success. I am brand new as asp .net
Thank you for any help you can give.

1. How is structure of your textfile?
2. Can you post here one row of textfile to look what structure it have?
And we will see how we can get specified values [74], [75], [6], [92], [90], and [35]

firstly , Hello every one
i want to know if there is a way to link a c++ compiler to a web site & if there , what is it?
thanx

Depends what you mean. Do you want to type C++ code, send it off to be compiled and send back the exe ? The command line compiler is your best bet there.

I'm looking for a nice clean way to retrieve email using .NET. Essentially, I want to take emails from a particular address (via SMTP or POP) and push them into a workflow in my application. All of the samples so far seem to be a bit low-level (screwing around with sockets) and I don't see anything in the framework that makes it straightforward. This seems like something I should be able to throw together pretty quickly.
Is there a clean way to do this without third party components? Am I overlooking some really simple way of doing this, or should I just bite the bullet and mess with TCP? It looks like the smtp client object would have this functionality, but it isn't there.
Any thoughts?

This has zero to do with ASP.NET. And, there's an article here on Code Project about doing it.

Sorry about that man. I wrote it on the way out of the office and stuck it in the wrong forum. I've got to stop posting things and sending emails at the end of the day - it never works out well. The train of thought that led me to put this question here seemed logical then, but after a nap and a few (too many) margaritas, it does seem kind of dumb. Many apologies. I'l repost in the appropriate forum tomorrow when I am well rested if I can't find the answer tonight.
By the way (and still off-topic), I enjoyed your graphics articles.

Hi
I am new to RSS and trying to develop a rss feed application and ran into few challenges. I am pretty sure people out there will have figured it out. So, no point in re-inventing the wheel. (Typical MS thinking )
1. It needs a calendar page (configurable to display 1 or upto 12 months)
2. Since feed will be coming daily, I need to create a page daily (hopefully dynamically).
3. If a date page is created then, for that date, an active hyperlink should be there in calendar. Conversely, if a date page is not present then no link in calendar.
4. Today's page becomes the default page of the site.
Please advise how I can approach this? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Using ASP.net does anybody know how to identify to the user the current page which they are on? Using css this is simple by adding an ID to the body tag on each page. However there is only 1 body tag in the application because I am using master pages. Much appreciate any input.
Thanks.

Hi folks,
i'm looking for a comprehensive hence economical self-service reporting system which could be integrated in APS.Net Web Solutions so that power-users (or my programmers) can log into any deployed instance of the solution and "design" new reports...insread of programming them.
There are BI tools, but are too expensive for typical ASP.Net projects, and are meant for Corporate Deployments...not samll projects.
the main features i'm looking for are:
* Zero-Programming afer deployment
* Design and Save Reports
* Backup and Restore Reports
* Control over Print Layout (i could design layout for print)
* Excel / PDF Export
* Security to control access to specific reports
* Email Scheduling
Any ideas?

Have you looked at Crystal Reports, it comes with the new version of Visual Studio, and should be able to do most if not all of what you want.. The security aspect will probably have to be handeled by your Web Application. We do something similar to waht you are trying to do but we just use a common call interface to stored procedures in the database that display results in a datagrid, and have table that links reports and user id's so we can control on a per user basis what reports they get to run. We're looking to upgrade to using Crystal reports but havnt had time to yet, If you dont like CR i'm sure there are dozens of 3rd Party apps that do similar things.

What's happening instance object reference an instance Singleton class ?
Garbage collector destroy my instance page behind yes or no after use ?, because instance page behind always reference an instance singleton object.
Thanks for your help.
Example :
In my class Page Behind, i reference
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
public partial class MyPageBehind : Page
{
protected MyBusinessLayerClassSingleton objSingleton = MyBusinessLayerClassSingleton.GetInstance();
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{ ..... }
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other example with An user instance object
public class Member : User
{
protected MyBusinessLayerClassSingleton objSingleton = MyBusinessLayerClassSingleton.GetInstance();
public string SName {get; set;}
public string SStreet { get; set; }
public Membre()
{ .... }
}

I can't really determine which instance it is that you mean...
The instance of the MyPageBehind class will be up for collection when the request has been handled.
The instance of the singleton will never be collected. The singleton class has a static reference to the instance once you have created it.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

The singleton, once initialized, will last as long as the application domain - so until the worker process is recycled.

Hi,
I have 2 tables one contain QuestionID and Questions and another table contains multiple choices against each question. Here is the sample data
Table1 -
QuestionID QuestionDesc
1 How many Data Stewards exist today?
2 Is there a DG Executive Sponsor?
Table2 -
QuestionID QuestionsAnswerChoices
1 0-5
1 6-10
1 11-20
2 Yes
2 No
Now I need to dynamically read these two tables and disaplay in a Webpage ina question answer patterns where user can choose their answer and save once completed. Somewhat it should look like as follows:
How many Data Stewards exist today? <optionbutton> 0-5 <optionbutton> ...
Is there a DG Executive Sponsor? (optionButton)Yes (optionButton) No
Save/Submit
As questions might be keep changing needs dynamically displayed ona web page. Any help would be really appreciated.

I dont know if any new controls will handle this better, but I'd imagine that a good ol fashioned asp:Repeater control may do what you want, unfortunatly i cant think of an efficient way of dynamically binding the answers to the radiobuttonlist, the only way i can think of is using the ItemDataBound event of the repeater to bind each radiobuttonlist based on the question id that was just used by the reader to display the question. Hope this helps, if you have any further questions lemme know
