Call the JavaScript function ‘window.open’.
window.open( [page name],[window name],'status=yes,width=700,height=400');

Hi,
I'm quite a newbie to the ASP.Net game. I've built an application using Visual Web Devloper, ASP.Net 2.0 and C# which relies heavily on its database connection for frequent writes and retrieves. This is all running fine on my local machine.
I need to deploy it to a web server and set up ODBC access to the database as I have another application which will also be reading and writing to the database, simultaneously to the ASP.Net front end.
My questions are, what do I do to deploy this to a remote site? How do I set up security and access permissions for the ODBC connection? What facilities or specification will I require from my host? My database, as initially created has a .mdf file extension - when published will this be accessible to multiple concurrent users, or do I need to store the database in some other way. How do I upload the database to my server?
I appreciate that these are quite open questions, but I'd really value any help or direction you can give. You can see how little I know so far
Thanks in advance,
Alice

HI
Guys i have new problem now, the problem is that when the user views the uploaded document,the user gets the path of the document from the address bar, so the user can access that document by copy and pasting it in the address bar any other time.What i want to do is to make separate private folder and upload the document in it and the path of this folder should not be accessible to the user so that user cann't access the document by copy and pasting the path in the address bar of browser, how is this possible, can any one help me out, if it can not be done in the way mentioned above
is there any other way to do it. Plz reply me ASAP.thankx in advance.

You have to make filesystem calls and basically do what the web server does--send header information and then the data stream. I haven't actually done this in ASP .NET, but I did it a long time ago in perl. Here is an article that should set you off in the right direction: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/20011006.asp[^] . Basically what you have to do is:
1. Display links to the files that actually call an event where you can grab the appropriate file based on whatever validation you want (use Directory.GetFiles() to get the files you want from the directory outside the web tree).
2. When the user clicks on the link you've created for each file, in the event handler, check that they have all the appropriate credentials and then load the file into a filestream which you will then write back in the response after writing the "Content-disposition" header. See the above article for the details of how to do that.
I hope that helps.

Hi friends,
In my asp.net application, I want to convert ms-access data to excel. for this first i get the access data to gridview and from this i am fetching into excel. Its working well for smaller number of records. (say for eg. 5000). But for me in access there are 2 lacs records. While fetching these its giving problem. i am using the following code. Please can anyone help me is there are any alternatives for this.
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
OleDbConnection cn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=D:/Database/Viewer.mdb;");
cn.Open();
OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter("select Parcel,Land,LandUse from Collection where class='E'", cn);
da.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey;
// DataSet ds = new DataSet();
da.Fill(ds, "Collection");
GridView1.DataSource = ds.Tables[0].DefaultView;
GridView1.DataBind();
}
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=FileName.xls");
Response.Charset = "";
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.xls";
System.IO.StringWriter stringWrite = new System.IO.StringWriter();
System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter htmlWrite = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWrite);
GridView1.RenderControl(htmlWrite);
Response.Write(stringWrite.ToString());
Response.End();
}
public override void VerifyRenderingInServerForm(Control control)
{
return;
}
Thanks in advance
Thanks and Regards,
Prya

You'll probably be better off if you just write out a CSV file. To create an Excel spreadsheet document you'll either need to use Office Automation or you'll have to find some third-party library that will create the file for you. What I would do is just write the data out as a CSV file and then send that back to the client. In all liklihood, the CSV will open in Excel anyhow.

Hi,
I think you can use next attribute in web.config - <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="8192" />
|
|
|
|
|
but wht if the user uploads the file greater then the max request length mentioned in web.config, the application will be going to crash, how to handle this situation ,when user uploads the file greater then the max request length mentioned in web.config,plz reply me asap, thankx for ur reply.

You can use client JavaScript for verify file size. And if this size greater, you dont make DoPostBack.
|
|
|
|
|
|
But this depends on the user whether he has activeX enabled or not. This cannot be the safe methods. I think server side checking will also be required.
