Is there any free framework to develop asp.net web directory or asp.net virtual shops? I mean a web directory that you only need to configure the layout and to add sites. Something like for forums. Thanks a lot.

Hey all,
I am fairly new to the asp.net world and so far i am missing C# fully capabilities and control.
But since i want to learn how to create OS Independent solutions i want to try it out.
Could anyone help me with this:
1-) How can i display a message box? In java script i know i can use alert, prompt and confirm. But i am using C# scripts... and some asp books i have doesn't have it.
2-) I have a treeView control on the website but i want to collapse all elements but the selected node, i am doing like this:
protected void TreeVIEW_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TreeView Current = (TreeView)sender;
TreeNodeCollection childs = Current.SelectedNode.ChildNodes;
Current.SelectedNode.CollapseAll();
foreach (TreeNode child in childs)
if (child.Parent == Current.SelectedNode)
child.Parent.Expand();
else
child.Parent.Collapse();
}
what am i doing wrong???
thx all

Well, that just doesn't work. Javascript, not C#, is what runs on the client. So to show the client a message box, you need to use javascript.

Can Someone help here, I am getting the following error on a Windows forms User Control running on an asp.net webpage,
"request for permission of type system.net.mail.smtppermission failed",
the User Control is a complied DLL and I have included it on the ASp.net page, the user control is supposed to send an email when I click send it works fine in a vb form and does run the code on the webpage but wont send the email. how do i set the SMtp Permission in my code using the SmtpPermission Class in System.Net.Mail.
below is the code for sending the mail in the dll,
Function SendMail(ByVal MailServer As String, ByVal mailUser As String, ByVal MailPassword As String, ByVal EmailAddress As String, ByVal Message As String, ByVal FormAddress As String, ByVal Subject As String, ByVal Port As String, ByVal Auth As Boolean) As Boolean
Try
Dim message1 As New MailMessage(EmailAddress, FormAddress, Subject, HttpUtility.HtmlDecode(Message).ToString)
message1.IsBodyHtml = True
Dim emailClient As New SmtpClient(MailServer)
emailClient.UseDefaultCredentials = False
' used to authenticate the account used for sending mail
If Auth = True Then
Dim basicAuthenticationInfo As New System.Net.NetworkCredential(mailUser, MailPassword)
emailClient.Credentials = basicAuthenticationInfo
End If
emailClient.Port = CInt(Port)
emailClient.Send(message1)
Return True
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox("SendMail Failed: " & ex.Message)
Return False
End Try
End Function
I have included the dll like so on the aspx webpage
<OBJECT id="SendMail2" height="193" width="527" classid="http:OCTBulkMailer.dll#OCTBulkMailer.eMailer" VIEWASTEXT >
<PARAM NAME="fromAddressVal" VALUE="email">
<PARAM NAME="emailEmailSubjectVal" VALUE="Testmail from OCT Mailer">
<PARAM NAME="emailMessageVal" VALUE='<%= Message %>' >
<PARAM NAME="SmtpAuthVal" VALUE="True">
<PARAM NAME="SmtpPassVal" VALUE="pass">
<PARAM NAME="SmtpUserVal" VALUE="email">
<PARAM NAME="Title" VALUE="Bulk Mailer">
<PARAM NAME="EmailAddressesVal" VALUE='<%= addresses %>'>
<PARAM NAME="SmtpServerVal" VALUE="server">
<PARAM NAME="SmtpPortVal" VALUE="25">
<PARAM NAME="Instructions" VALUE="Click Start to Start sending your mails">
</OBJECT>

Private method are accessible in same class only
Even if you create a object of that class and try to access the method it will give error

It sounds to me like you should not be writing dlls, or any code, you should be working through a beginners book that explains these sort of concepts clearly.

Hi,
Sorry for such a newb type question, but im really in need of your help....
I need to display images as a gallery. I can retrieve and display images no problem, however i need to show 10 images at a time in 2 rows of 5, with paging.
Im using .Net 2.0 C#. Can anyone point me in the right direction eg which data control to use or even a good tutorial on how to do it?
Many Thanks guys!

i think if you have to show images only for viewing perpose then repeater is good option check google how to create item template

What do you mean by vieiwing only???

Repeater is better than other controls when there is no user interaction with the data that is shown on the page (Edit/Delete/)

One of my requirements is paging as mentioned in my initial post.
I also require the ability to display 10 images across two rows of 5 images.

Upgrade to ASP.NET 3.5, and you could achieve the desired results using the ListView[^] control and its Group Templates functionality.

Use a gridview. You just define your template so that it shows an image using the path from your data source. Repeaters are better for doing something where you have two rows, but you'd have to do your own paging ( not such a big deal ). to do it with any other control, you need to format your data source so you have two image paths in every data item.

You can do it using webconfig file.
create one folder in app_code folder and place all .vb files in that folder and you can configure that folder using following lines.
<compilation debug="true">
<codesubdirectories>
<add directoryname="VB" />
</codesubdirectories>
By this you can use both c# and vb class in one application.
please don't forget to vote on the post that helped you.

Just create a dll for C# project and add that dll(Add reference) your VB application. i think you will not get any problems

To clarify the first answer you got, you can have VB.NET and C# pages within an ASP.NET application, but the app code needs to all be the same language. A dll is the way to solve this. Although, your question doesn't read like it's an ASP.NET question at all ?
