That article is wrong. It just uses FileUpload.PostedFile.InputStream and saying that it is efficient. InputStream property is getting filled only when the complete file has been send from client to server through HTTP. So it makes no difference in the speed.

Yes, I understand now how your poor grasp of english is part of the issue, and I apologise for that, because that's not your fault. But, if you ask to upload files using streams, the only logical assumption is that you want some sort of a stream on the client side. That's not how it works, the file is uploaded and the ASP.NET control provides the file as a stream. This article is about not loading the entire file into memory before storing into a DB, but reading it a bit at a time, in order to save memory on the server. It will NOT make the file upload faster, nor can it. It will simply use less memory to store the file. Again, if you know anything about ASP.NET, there is ONE HTML upload control, and that's your only option to upload a file using ASP.NET. It will always work the same, until it hits the server.

You're not getting it. Streaming in this case is the streaming of the file, from the file upload control, on the server, to the database. It has nothing to do with uploading files faster, in fact, it's probably a tiny bit slower. It's for saving memory on the server side.

Probably by writing a java ( or .NET if it's IE only ) control and embedding it within the page. Then you can do any sort of operation you like, including selecting multiple files, etc. I use Godaddy as a web host, and their FTP client is written in Java, for example.

Thnaks for being with me..
Ok now i got you.. dont bother about the time... send me some useful syntax of streaming the file from the upload control, to the server ( here i am using my local machine.. so i want to upload file to c:\uploadFiles\ )
Thanks in advance

I don't have any idea how to write a java component to do that, I just know that's how it's done.

Hi,
When my Detailsview enters Edit Mode some Fields becomes invisible because I used the attribute InsertVisible = false.
But a RequiredField inside invisible TemplateFields is still working even in Edit Mode.How could I fix this strange problem?!
I am too late but i will never give up

I need to extract some of the data from third party website. I know we can retrive data from the div tags. but programatically how can i know the view source of that html page. I explictly know that tag name.
How can i use programatically to retive that one.

You can get the page using WebClient class. Work with DownloadFile or DownloadString methods. After you got the page, use regular expressions to parse the page and find information needed.

How you want ot access the data from other third party websites?Is there some API exposed by that site?
Cheers!!

I retrived data in the following way to a string
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
WebRequest req = null;
WebResponse rsp = null;
string uri = "http://www.ancestry.com/facts/gupta-family-history.ashx";
req = WebRequest.Create(uri);
rsp = req.GetResponse();
StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(rsp.GetResponseStream());
string strdata = reader.ReadToEnd();
}
Now the string strdata contains all the HTML code. If i want to retive the data between div tag how can i extract this from that string.?

Using regular expression as I said earlier.

hmmm, can you give an example to how to use div tag in regular expressions ?

DIV tag has no relation with regular expressions. Regular expressions are patterns used to find/replace specific text. It looks like you need a book on regular expressions. Try programs like RegExBuddy/Expresso which will help you to build regular expressions.

This question has bugger all to do with ASP.NET. ASP.NET is the one thing you can't possibly use to copy websites.

Hello everyone,
My problem is,
1. I want to let end user to fill-in an Excel file, which contains two columns, file description and file location on client side;
2. I want to let end user to upload the Excel file to my web server, then I want my web server to find the files specified in Excel file and upload them into web server.
Any documents or samples for me to start with?
thanks in advance,
George

Thanks Abhijit,
I read this sample, but I think it is not what I want. I want the end user to submit an Excel file which contains all submit file items, and then the web application could automatically retrieve/upload the file items.
Any comments or ideas for my solution?
regards,
George

This is not possible in ASP.NET. ASP.NET sits on server and can't access any file in the client machine.
