Yeah, post in a right forum. This has nothing to with ASP.NET.

Good Morning All
i have a Table
===================
DESCR CYCLE
===================
Rendle C | 5 |
Reid M Prof | 9 |
Randall S Ms | 3 |
Reid M Prof | 3 |
Rendall G Mr | 3 |
Rendle C | 3 |
Rendall G Mr | 2 |
===================
Now as you can see "Rendle C" and "Rendall G Mr" appears Twice, now i want append the cyle field if the descr appears twice, the above list should now look like this
===================
DESCR CYCLE
===================
Rendle C | 5 3 |
Reid M Prof | 9 3 |
Rendall G Mr | 3 2 |
===================
How can i do this in SQl
Thank you

AS you said, this is a SQL question. It belongs in the SQL forum. But, one question - will you know for sure that each Descr will have the same number of entries ? You may want to do this in code, depending on how big the data set is.

Good Morning Chris
Am very Very Sorry for Posting this question here. i should better than. Please move it for me to the SQL Forum.
Christian : wrote

No, What am trying to achieve is that if the Field Descr appears more than once , take the Cycles and Append them
e.g if i have this
Descr | cycle
===============
James | 4
James | 3
Now if its like this i want to add the Cyles field
like this
Descr | cycle
===============
James | 4 3
Please note that this is not a Duplicate, am refining an old Functionality that used to Display them in a Grid. The Dataset will not be big. But i thought i should some manipulation in SQL, because at the end i will be displaying this on a Grid.
Thank you

If the number of columns is going to be arbitrary, I really think your best bet is to get a single datatable, in the form you're getting it now, and then build the data in memory in a format that will bind to a repeater or grid.

I assume there's a fadeIn method, so you want to call that, right ?

You can use AJAX Modal Popup Extender.

Hi All, On my page, if data is not found, i want to redirect my page to some customized page ( saying data not found) with a status code 404 so that google dont crawl it. I am using following code - Response.Clear(); Response.Status = "404 not found."; Response.StatusCode = 404; Response.AddHeader( "Location", "error.htm"); Response.RedirectLocation= "/error.htm"; It sets my page status to 404 but doesnt redirect to "error.htm", however this code works for 301 & 302 redirection. If anyone have idea, please help me out.

I assume it redirects to the page which is configured in IIS. If yes, you need to change this to error.htm in IIS settings.

When running a tutorial project on LINQ, I'm getting an error:
The table name property of LinqDataSource 'LinqDataSource1' must specify a table property or field on the data context type.
I tried to set the TableName property to RegClient, which is the name of the actual table name of the database created within the project, however, VS does not seem to recognize it. From the horizontal dropdown next to LinqDataSource1.TableName the table name does not show up, which might mean that it was not configured.
Any ideas?
NOTE: Cannot paste code directly due to a network problem on the VM where the code resides.

If you use object of Table class, it is must to provide the actual table map attribute on the header.
I think the DBML you made doesnt have the actual tables in the database. Just change the connectionstring and create the table structure as mentioned in the DBML.
This error will wiped out automatically....

I'm going through a tutorial which mentions the use of:
<br />
1. <asp: Label ID="myLabel" runat="server" Text=<%# boundMessage() %/><br />
This does not seem to compile. Error message: <br />
Attribute values must be enclosed in quotation marks.<br />
<br />
2. <%DataBinder.Eval (Container.DataItem, "SupID" %><br />
This does not compile. Error message:<br />
The name 'Container does not exist in the current context'<br />
<br />
3. When I use the following connection string, I get an error from SQL Server, only on DELETE <br />
statements:<br />
hookUp = new SqlConnection("Database=localhost\\$INSTANCENAME; Database=$DATABASE_NAME; Integrated Security = True".<br />
<br />
I resolved this by using the connection string generated by Visual Studio and the code compiled fine (lazy fashion), however, I could not understand how the same connection string returned no errors with<br />
SQL UPDATE and SELECT statements.<br />

Correct.
Text="<%# boundMessage() %>"
jon_80 wrote: The name 'Container does not exist in the current context'
I assume this code exists outside of a bound control. Actually, I think you need to use <%# or <%= ( I forget which )

And what is the error ?

Well, I tried
<asp:Label ID="BindMe" runat="server" Text=<%= boundMessage() %/> to no avail, because VS generated the following error:
Server tags cannot contain <% ... %> constructs.

When first released, ASP.NET lacked a template engine.
So now, for .NET 2.0, ARE "master pages", ASP.NET'S version of a template Engine?
If no, how do regular Template engines (StringTemplate) differ from 'Master Pages'?
Thanks in advance,
Laura

A master page provides a template for all pages, by providing for some areas to be common to all pages, and yet written once. I have no idea how this differs from what you regard a template engine to be, but it feels like a good fit to me.

hi..in my project..i m dng an execution of exe file(an updation of software version) for a software present in the different machine...i,e,the update file is present in one machine, and the real software is present in differetn machien..
when i run the update file,specifically an exe file, the update should go to the specifed machine software...i want to this in a asp.net web site
thanks,in advance

You can't. Imagine if any website could run any exe on your machine. Not a nice idea, is it ? You can provide a local link to a file path you assume exists, or have people just download and run it, but you can't make it run without the user asking it to.
