In a web application I maintain there are textboxes that hold Hebrew text. I have set the font to be the Hebrew font and it works fine if the user enters letters first. However, if they do shift + a number key as the first character it will print english symobls (like @#$@#). However, if they enter a Hebrew character first then do the shift + number key it will print the appropriate Hebrew character. Any idea what is wrong with this text box or how to fix it?

Has anyone seen an implementation or know of any way to allow end users to choose multiple filter criteria for a datagrid / dataview based on the contents of the columns and allowing BETWEEN type criteria (i.e. date ranges or alphanumeric ranges)?
I have a windows forms implementation which is a commercial grid component which has a filter button built into the column headings allowing you to select quite complex criteria based on the data in the grid or manually entered criteria. It pops up a dialog box to do it. Their asp.net component however leaves out this functionality.
I'm looking to do the same thing in asp.net but unfortunately there isn't much out there that isn't way too simplistic for this case.
I've looked at the articles here and they aren't going to fit the situation because they are either too simplistic (i.e. mostly they don't support the concept of a BETWEEN criteria as in between start date and end date)
If I can get some inspiration on how to proceed it might be good for an article here. I'd prefer to buy a component but that seems to be out the window after some searching so I'm looking at trying to build....something...that can do the job.
Any ideas thoughts no matter how off the wall appreciated at this point, my fingers are going numb from typing in search strings in google and everywhere else it seems.

IMHO, you can build a seperate web page which is responsible for building the custom filter criteria, it's functionality similar to what Mike did in his great article[^]. You can either show up the filtering web page in a pop-up window or redirect to this page to allow the user to build his custom filtering criteria. In addition, you may also want to check out the r.a.d.grid (telerik)[^] control.

Thank you, I'll have a look at that article.
I looked at Telerik but their licensing is ridiculous for commercial software developers so it's completely out of the question unfortunately because they do have half the solution in their grid component.

Hi ok I have two problems ... to be fixed
1) I have a view.aspx file used to view some data . It has some text and a link button which when clicked will open a attachment. this view file also has a print button which will print the whole text. Is there a possibility that when i click on the print button the whole view file gets printed along with the attachment without having to open it manually and press CTRL P ??
2) I am also trying to open my site in firefox ad the drop down are displayed so small, also thetextboxes have shrinked grretly in size. I have even downloaded the latest version 1.5.3 but still in vain. Thanks for reading and your help.
Cheers,
Preethi.

comm.Parameters["@str1"].Value = txusername.Text;
comm.Parameters["@str2"].Value = txemail.Text;
comm.CommandText = "SELECT username,email FROM tableex WHERE username='@str1' OR email='@str2'";
comm.Connection.Open();
string strmessage = txusername.Text + " ID already exists";
string strmessage1 = " Already a registered user with this emailID";
object val = comm.ExecuteScalar();
if(val != null)
{
RegisterStartupScript("startupScript","alert('" + strmessage + "');");
}----------------------------------------------------
Now the problem is that..I would like to execute ExecuteScalar separately...First on button click my form first should check whether username exists and also sametime whether already given email is present in database...
How to check whether both exist in the database with select commands...

comm.CommandText = "SELECT username,email FROM tableex WHERE username='" +txusername.Text +"' and email ='" + txemail.Text +"'";
|
|
|
|
|
ExecuteScalar will return an obj value..We will check it out like
object val = comm.ExecuteScalar();
if(val != null)
{
//alert message goes here
}
So, when both username and email are correct then only it will return..But i want to check for username separately and email too..someone can enter a different username for an exisiting email address in database..so i want to check either username as well email address is already present...If username is present then it will alert already username exists and email address already registered...then no need of registering once again...This is the idea behind my topic.

|
comm.CommandText = "SELECT username,email FROM tableex WHERE username='" +txusername.Text +"'; SELECT username,email FROM tableex WHERE email='" + txemail.Text +"'";
in one query i used two select command
first check for the username seperatly from email
second check for email seperatly from username
username and email are both in one table tableex

I'm making first, last, next, prev buttons outside of the datagrid. The labels/buttons that are assigned value/commands respectively based on which row of the datagrid is selected (which only needs to have dataBind on the first page load). Then, if the button outside the datagrid is pushed, I want it to go to the correct row of the datagrid and display a hidden cell of the datagrid in a label field. What is the correct syntax for pulling a datagrid's hidden column based on a button click outside of the datagrid? If you look at the code below, the correct row in the datagrid is highlighted when I push the next button, but I can't get the syntax right to have the lblPgTitle (outside the datagrid) display the hidden cell of the datagrid. (datagrid cell specifically is DataField="pgTitle")
sub pgNext(sender as object, e as eventArgs)
dim n as integer=cint(lblNext.text)
dgNavList.selectedIndex=n
lblPgTitle.text=dgNavList.item.cells(1).text
end sub
Tried another tack going through the onSelectedItemChanged in the datagrid
withcoe below but get an error of identifer expected.
Sub navNav(Sender as object, e as eventArgs)
Dim itemTitle As TableCell =
dgNavList.Items[dgNavList.SelectedIndex].Cells(1)
lblPgTitle.text=convert.toString(itemTitle.text)
End sub
Any ideas? There's got to be a way to reference it.

For anybody else out there, here's what worked - did not involve viewState and did not involve onSelectedIndexChanged by the event method of the button:
sub pgNext(sender as object, e as eventArgs)
dim n as integer=cint(lblNext.text)
dgNavList.selectedIndex=n
Dim itemTitle As TableCell = dgNavList.Items(n).Cells(1) lblPgTitle.text=convert.toString(itemTitle.text)
end sub

I'm looking for some code I can drop in to allow users ( a very select, authorized set of users ) to browse for files on the server and use them to dynamically create web pages.
Does anyone have a link to stand-alone code for doing this? I've found code here bundled into projects that does way more than what I need (I'd trim it down but it's hard to tell what is required and what isn't). If you have a link to something clean and concise I'd appreciate it.

Oops ! I misunderstood what you need, I just thought that you might be talking about something that prevents the unauthorised user from browsing (accessing) your web pages (files), sorry Rex .

I have a HttpHandler that does that. However I would have to modify it for you to add the users allow to do so. Let me know and I can make it work for you.

The users can only access the entire management tool from a certain machine. If they are not on that machine nothing works. Once they are in the system no authentication is required.
I only added that part about security to avoid a bunch of people telling me I had a bad idea or whatever. I just need some code to browse for files on the server.

Are you viray?
Well, the article shows you the way of using ADO.NET to save the image binary data to DB. Have you seen that? The article also gives you the sample code to pull the image from DB and display on the web page.
