What is the exact error? Is it a SQL timeout or an http timeout?

Right click on site in IIS and click "Browse", if the site's default page opens up, configuration is OK and problem might be with network. And if some problem with site configuration is there, it will show you proper error details.

You can use IP Address or Computer name of that computer to achieve the same.
First of all deploy your application to your computer's IIS.
Then if required, then disable your firewall.
now you can access the web application from LAN computers using the URL given below:
http://[ComputerName OR IP]/[WebAppName]
I hope, this will help you out.

Hi... I am creating search function in my web. I create a dropdownlist, textbox and button. This is my code:
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true"
OnSelectedIndexChanged="DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged">
<asp:ListItem></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Pelanggan Rumah"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Kios Air"></asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:TextBox ID="CariText" runat="server" Width="100px" Height="23px" CssClass="text_boxt_search"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button ID="Find" runat="server" Text="Search" Width="61px" CssClass="style105" Height="25px" />
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceCustomer" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ATBGISMAPDBConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [DBCUSTOMER] WHERE ([CUST_NAME] LIKE '%' + @CUST_NAME + '%')">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="CariText" Name="CUST_NAME" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceKiosk" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ATBGISMAPDBConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [KIOSK] WHERE ([Cust_Name] LIKE '%' + @Cust_Name + '%')">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="CariText" Name="Cust_Name" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
And this in the controller:
Public Sub DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DropDownList1.SelectedIndexChanged
Dim strConnect As String = Nothing
strConnect = Session("Data Source=192.168.1.88;Initial Catalog=ATBGISMAPDB;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=gis;Password=Pa5word@tb")
Dim a As String = "SqlDataSourceCustomer"
Dim b As String = "SqlDataSourceTank"
Dim c As String = "SqlDataSourceKiosk"
Dim d As String = "Pipa"
If DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Value = a Then
Query = "SELECT * FROM DBCUSTOMER where a = '" & LabelDDL.Text & "'"
ElseIf DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Value = c Then
Query = "SELECT * FROM KIOSK where c = '" & LabelDDL.Text & "'"
End If
End Sub

You have to databind() again. It looks like you are just changing some variable named Query. But then what? Do you databind()?

Hi,
I have a gridview bound to the database(columns - price, units,total) . I have a option to edit the row. On change of the value while editing I need to do some calculation based on the the value entered and update another textbox/label in the same row ( as well as sum of all the total price in footer row ie. Grand total) without doing any postback. I'm new to javascript. Can anyone help me to achieve this.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can do that in JavaScript or Jquery without making a trip back to the server.
If the server binds data from a database and creates a gridview object with the bound data, and then sends it to the browser, the server will expect the same data to return back on postback. If the data changes on the client side, the server will throw an exception saying that the gridview has been tampered with, and you will get the error page. This is a built-in security measure to prevent hacking.
You would have to send the gridview without the data, but with empty cells, and make an Javascript AJAX call to populate the cells, Javascript to edit the cells, and Javascript to write back the cell data, and then just destroy the page when done.
You can use an update panel to make a small async postback to the server for just the gridview, and calculate on the server side. All will be well then.
Edit:
I may be wrong, try out the post above first, but I know for sure on objects like the listbox will do that. Textbox is exempt from validation on the server side, because it's expected to change.

I'm new to web services in ASP.NET. Been trying to get my head around it recently. Here are my questions.
1. The Web Service item (.asmx that you can add to your project in Visual Studio), does that only generate an XML service (generate XML output)? What about JSON?
2. When I add a web reference to my project, and I get prompted to specify a URL, what kind of service does that have to be? For example, when I enter http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=twitter - it doesn't work (nothing gets fetched).
3. After you create an .asmx service, how is this consumed through a non-.NET technology like PHP or JavaScript?
4. If I were to create a web service in another technology (PHP/ColdFusion), what would be the requirements so that I could easily add a web reference to a .NET project to be ready for consumption?
5. When do you ditch creating a Web Service (.asmx) and create a Generic Handler (.ashx)? What's best practice?

The default format is XML I believe, you can change one of the tags to script, to output JSON.
CrazyPepperoni wrote: 2. When I add a web reference to my project, and I get prompted to specify a URL, what kind of service does that have to be? For example, when I enter http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=twitter - it doesn't work (nothing gets fetched).
You must be referring to the namespace in the webservice tag. You put in your the url to your website root.
If your really trying to access that web service, you may have to go around a second time with credentials to get any data back, or it may be password protected.
CrazyPepperoni wrote: 3. After you create an .asmx service, how is this consumed through a non-.NET technology like PHP or JavaScript?
It makes no difference in my opinion. Any technology can access a web service.
CrazyPepperoni wrote: 4. If I were to create a web service in another technology (PHP/ColdFusion), what would be the requirements so that I could easily add a web reference to a .NET project to be ready for consumption?
It makes no difference, you just have to get the url and file name correct, and make the correct call to it.
As long as you know the format of the input and output, and have credentials to use it if required, it really doesn't matter what the technology is. The technology is only specific to the web servers capabilities, that is hosting the web service file.
The purpose of a web service is to provide a non-homogenous environment for 1 computer to access data from another computer.

I am trying to convert a web application from 1.1 to 2.0 or above. when I compile my solution it gives me error in the following piece of code that
Option Strict On disallows late binding. The line of code is
Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("IntranetSettings")("ConnectionAsset"))
I really appreciater your help in advance.
|
|
|

That error occurs when you are trying to access a method or property that does not exist on the type you are using but might exist on a type that inherits from the type you are using.
Since no one else will answer the question, here's my analysis:
The ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("IntranetSettings") will return a System.Object. You then try to access an array element ("ConnectionAsset") from it, and System.Objects aren't necessarily arrays. This is a likely cause of the error.
You should probably resort to explicitly casting the results of the GetConfig() method to whatever type it ends up being. After that, make sure that the SqlConnection() method is taking in a string rather than an object.
|
|
|
|
|
This is your error
ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("IntranetSettings")("ConnectionAsset")
It's trying to grab a string value from the configuration setting called "IntranetSettings"
Normally it's just a string ...
"Data Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername;Password=myPassword;"
But yours is stored in the project somewhere. Your need to repair the projects resource table.

hi,
I'm assuming that the button click will trigger the modal popup through the client side script. If that the case, try include this line into the script.
<script type="text/javascript">
if (typeof (Sys) !== "undefined") Sys.Application.notifyScriptLoaded();
function showModalPopupViaClient() { ... }
function hideModalPopupViaClient() { ... }
....
....
<script>
Thanks,

I think you have to load the AjaxControlToolkit client extensions on the production web server, there is a small download from Microsoft that you run on the server. I'm not sure about Server 2008, but I do remember having to load several programs to stuff like the chart controls to work.
ASPAJAXExtSetup [Microsoft AJAX Script Library^]
ASP.NET AJAX integrates client script libraries with the ASP.NET 2.0 server-based development framework. This new Web development technology extends ASP.NET, offering the interactive user interface benefits of AJAX with a programming model that is more familiar to ASP.NET developers, making it very easy to add AJAX to your applications quickly and with minimal effort. However, ASP.NET AJAX isn’t just for ASP.NET development. You can take advantage of the rich client framework to easily build client-centric Web applications that integrate with any backend data provider.
