  1. Download the submission template
  2. Write the article by answering the questions on the template
  3. Go to submission (Use our FAQ to guide your submission process)
  4. Ensure that you have the LightSwitch tags added and that location is set to "LightSwitch" section (under the Web Development heading) and the "LightSwitch Star Contest"
  5. You can include screenshots of your app in JPG,PNG or GIF or optionally the source code in a ZIP File or an outside link to it.

  6. Change the wizard to HTML mode like this then paste your created article submission
  7. Hit the Submit button

Prove that LightSwitch saved your business the most time and money or show us the amazing things you can do with LightSwitch and you could be a winner! Prizes will be issued monthly for two categories: Most Efficient Business Application and Most Ground-breaking Application. Your submission is eligible to win every month! See judging and monthly prizes below.

Answer the template questions, follow the Application Requirements and pay attention to the additional rules.

Additionally answer as many questions below to improve your chances to win.

  2. Would this application still be built if you didn’t have LightSwitch? If yes, with what?
  3. How many users does this application support?
  4. How long did this application take to actually build using LightSwitch?
  5. Does this application use any LightSwitch extensions? If so, which ones? Did you write any of these extensions yourself? If so, is it available to the public? Where?
  6. How did LightSwitch make your developer life better? Was it faster to build compared to other options you considered?

Judging

We're looking for submissions that show off LightSwitch's productivity and/or extensibility. Prove that LightSwitch saved your business the most time and money. Or show us the amazing things you can do with LightSwitch's extensibility model. Answer the questions above to convince us! Judging will be made by both CodeProject and the LightSwitch Team. The community will also greatly influence our decision as we look at community comments and ratings on each of the submissions.
  • Category 1: Most Efficient Business Application
    • Shows productivity: "LightSwitch saved my business lots of time & money!"
    • Most compelling use of LightSwitch to solve a business problem
      • May use multiple and/or large data sources
      • Shows off user productivity features
      • Doesn’t necessarily need to use any extensions
    • Saved the business the most time and money to build relative to the size & function of the application
  • Category 2: Most Ground-Breaking Business Application
    • Shows extensibility: “I can’t believe this is a LightSwitch Application!”
    • Same judging as above but additionally:
      • Uses extensions, shells, controls, etc., to extend LightSwitch past what you get out of the box.
        • Could be any extension(s) – commercial or roll-your-own

Application Requirements

  • Applications must be built using Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 RTM (get a free trial)
  • Contestants must be the owners of the submitted applications (you cannot submit other people’s work!)
  • You can submit sample applications and/or extensions you built or actual applications running in a business
  • If you are submitting an extension for consideration, please submit a sample that demonstrates using it in a LightSwitch application
  • Additional weight will be given to entries that describe how LightSwitch made your development life better/easier
  • Additional weight will be given to entries that submit real applications running in a business
  • Additional weight will be given to entries that make the application public facing and/or using Azure deployment
  • See judging categories and further regulations below

Additional Rules

  1. Must be an article or video on LightSwitch application or extension.
  2. Must tag article / blog entry with LightSwitch tag.
  3. The contest begins on Oct 31, 2011 and will end Jan 31, 2012 at 11:59:59 PM US Eastern Standard Time. All entries must be submitted during this period in order to qualify.
  4. Articles / video entries must follow the submission guidelines above.
  5. No cheating, lying, stealing code, swashbuckling, or biting.
  6. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. Only those who live in jurisdictions in which this contest is legal may enter.
  8. Any breach of the rules and the prize will be awarded to the runner up.
  9. By entering the contest you agree to the rules, conditions of entry, and agree that your member alias, article, code and any other submitted material can be used for promotional purposes by The Code Project and/or Microsoft.

  4. Articles / video entries must follow the guidelines.
  5. No cheating, lying, stealing code, swashbuckling, or biting.
  6. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. Only those who live in jurisdictions in which this contest is legal may enter.
  8. Any breach of the rules and the prize will be awarded to the runner up.
  9. By entering the contest you agree to the rules, conditions of entry, and agree that your member alias, article, code and any other submitted material can be used for promotional purposes by The Code Project.
  10. A reasonable US$ equivalent in lieu of the prize may also be awarded.
  11. Entries shall be deemed to be submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry unless clearly indicated otherwise. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization (e.g. business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.

www.codeproject.com members can vote on your article and YouTube users can vote on the videos. The articles that are highest-rated by members will be rated by our judges to determine the final winner.

Eligibility

This competition is open to software development professionals & enthusiasts who are of the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence; however, residents of Quebec and of the following countries are ineligible to participate due to legal constraints: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. Employees (or a member of their immediate family) of The Code Project or any of their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotional agencies are also ineligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law.

How to Enter

Entry is by the submission process described. Please read the submission requirements before submitting your entry.

Lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries will be disqualified. Any entry containing content that The Code Project deems objectionable for any reason will be disqualified. All decisions of The Code Project with respect to any aspect of the competition, including, without limitation, the eligibility of entries, are final and binding on all entrants in all matters as they relate to this competition. The Code Project reserves its right to modify the Rules.

The Code Project assumes no responsibility for lost, late, delayed, destroyed or misdirected mail, voice messages, email or any computer errors or malfunctions. No correspondence will be entered into with entrants.

The Code Project does not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof. Entry materials/data that have been tampered with or altered are void.
