How do I run a timer in background service in xamarin android

Hi,
I need to run timer in background service in android , I am usimg xamarin to build an android app, For timer I am using a runnable thread in c#, and problem is I am not able to define notification inside runnable class so that it updates value of a timer in a background.

Please give some suggestions its urgent, thanks in advance.
