What are advantage of building Sharepoint App using App model, insted of just building asp.net website?

Some I can think off are
No need of seperate hardware and hosting?
No need to create database, tables insted use lists?
Built in Security model?

Is sharepoint just going to be database (using lists) for custom applications?

What are advantage for on premise environments going with app model? Can we use sharepoint webparts from html pages are javascript?

Thanks

Although this has been one of the ignored old questions, but I am still going to answer to add for future reference.

App model has nothing to do with a hardware or hosting. It basically tells you and empowers you to have your application hosted outside your SharePoint environment. Or even completely hosted outside your own hosting environment as well.

Your App could be in ASP.Net but it could be even in PHP which has nothing to do with Microsoft Technologies.

This was it also empowers you as a developer or third-party to leverage the power of SharePoint (read as authentication, default functionalities such as collaboration, news, announcements, document management etc.).

If you see Microsoft's strategy with Office 365, what you would see is that SharePoint will eventually fade away. In fact, in Office 365 it's called just as Sites and there is not mention of SharePoint.

And having said that, you would see more and more hybrid scenarios of having your SharePoint or Office 365 on Cloud. You App being on Prem or on cloud etc.
