I have written my CSS and now its time to convert it to a wordpress theme.

Wordpress has approx 1500 filter hooks as listed here -

http://adambrown.info/p/wp_hooks/version/3.6[^]

So what is the best approach to create themes because its almost impossible to remember all 1500 filter hooks.
Do I need to remember some common filters and look for the list as and when stuck ?
What approach normally designers take ?
Hope that I'm not asking something weird.

Use any ready made framework for wordpress theme development, i myself use Bones ready made theme you can implement all your styling easily and bones have much better options including custom post type
